Faulty wAP LR9 LoRaWAN

Thu Jan 06, 2022 3:12 am

Hi everyone,

I think my wAP is faulty, looking for help on how to diagnose and repair it. Otherwise I will need to return it.

I brought a Mikrotik wAP LR9 to test out creating a LoRaWAN network but I can't get it to show up as a new device on the network i.e. as a IP neighbour on the CRS328 switch. Basically all the LED light's on the LR9 light up as you would expect, but it never seems to get beyond that point to try and create an OS layer 2 or 3 connection.
I have tried
(a) Resetting it to factory defaults and CAPS mode with no change
(b) Re-installing it using NetInstall where it does show up in NetInstall but fails to install after NetInstall "Sending offer"

2. Video of the LR9 LEDs as it boots up https://imgur.com/a/EktIAM9
3. Video of NetInstall attempting to reinstall the LR9 https://imgur.com/a/Ic8s35V
4. My original post on the same issue viewtopic.php?t=179885

I get the same result running it off CRS328 PoE (802.3af/at) or passive PoE using the Mikrotik power adapater.
I have a handful of cAP ac, cAP ac XL, wAP ac, LHGG LTE6, hEX PoE, RB4011, and CRS328 switches so I am used to setting up Mikrotik hardware and RouterOS.

Thanks for any help,

MC

Some extra details RE NetInstall - NetInstall is v7.1.1 running on Windows 10 x64 English v1709 with VirtualBox Guest Additions v6.1.30. VirtualBox 6.1.30 is running on macOS 12.1 on a MacBook Pro (MBP). The VM has 2 virtual network interfaces, the first mapped to a ThunderBolt ethernet adapter that connects to the wAP LR9 and the second NAT's to my WiFi for Internet access.
The wAP LR9 is directly connected to the MBP via a gigabit ethernet adapter, there is no switch etc involved; it has a standard Mikrotik passive PoE adapter inline.

I've tested the same setup to reinstall RouterOS on a couple of cAP ac's without any issue. Only the wAP LR9 fails to reinstall

Re: Faulty wAP LR9 LoRaWAN  [SOLVED]

Ok I started trying older versions of RouterOS and NetInstall to see if that got the LR9 operational.

First I tried 6.48.6 long term, NetInstall said that it successfully formatted the drive in the LR9 and installed the RouterOS package. At the end it says it completed the successfully, but the LR9 still would not show up on my network.

Then I tried 6.44.6 long term and NetInstall gave me the error "board supports versions from 6.46.6".

So I tried 6.46.7 long term - Success!. It formatted, reinstalled and when I connected the LR9 to my CRS328 switch it showed up on the network after it showed up in IP neighbours.
Note when I booted the LR9 on the switch it was not in CAPS mode so I factory reset the config to CAPS mode by holding down the reset button for 10 seconds while powering up the LR9

Now that the LR9 was on the network and operating properly I logged into the WebUI and had it upgrade itself to 6.48.6 long term with no issues. Operating happily since then.
