CCR2004-1G-12S+2XS CPU Usage High

Mon Jan 17, 2022 1:36 pm

Hi,
We have a high CPU usage at about 2.5Gbps traffic on an interface

The CPU hits 70% at its peak time. We are needing to increase the traffic by another 2Gbps but are worried the CPU will cap out at 100% during this period.
We have an estimated 460 active PPPOE sessions on the router at peak and this will increase.
Each PPPOE session has a queue which a dynamic simple queue.
Very minor firewall rules. mainly for radius access and remote access.
No NAT or mangle rules on the router.OS version 6.48.2
No fast path or connection tracking
No BridgeRouter has 2 X BGP peers and the peers are to route reflectors.
OSPF on 2 VLANs

Can anyone offer advice as to why the CPU would be so high and if the router is just not capable or we need to look and new router OS.
I have attached some screenshots of all CPU's being utilised at 1.6Gbps.
thank you

Did you specifically set connection tracking off aka
/ip firewall connection tracking enabled no
if not, adding a firewall rule automatically turns it on.

you'll want to look into enabling fastpath as well

https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Fast_Path

EDIT:

I just seen your using queue's, that's probably the source of your high cpu and limiting your growth.

Per specs:
Mode	Configuration 1518 byte 512 byte	64 byte
kpps	Mbps	kpps	Mbps	kpps	Mbps
Routing	25 simple queues	2214	26887	2277	9327	2259	1157

Fasttrack is helping by 10% now and we going to monitor at peak times to see results thanks

What did enabling fast-tracking do to your CPU over time? Were you able to get past the 2.5Gbits mark?

Would splitting the PPPOE domains up, load the cores better, or is PPPOE connections multi-threaded?
