Mikrotik PtP perfomance - any hope?

Wed Jan 19, 2022 8:26 am

First of all: I am a big Mikrotik fan since 2006, and running a small WISP I use MT gear for almost everything. I love the versatility and the possibility to do whatever you desire.
And yet it is simple to use, and of course affordable.
But when it comes to PtP links (backhaul) I must admit that a few years ago I started using Airfiber 5XHD for "loaded" links.
For some reason, considering real world TCP thoughput, they easily outperform my MT based links by at least a 2:1 ratio.
300 Mbps is easlily achieved on 40 MHz of spectrum, even when shooting over or to/from dense areas where the 5GHz spectrum is devastated by hundreds of home APs.

So what is MT's plan to catch up?
What about ax? I can see a lot of discussion in the forum but yet no products on the street.
I would without hesitation accept a 200% price increase on a MiniPCI-e card if it could double the *real world" capacity compared to for instance R11e-5HacD. I don't care about the theoretical numbers like 867 Mbps, which are gross accumulated rates under ideal conditions.

If the competitors can do it, it means it possible!

:-(
But do you know what is the barrier?
Both MT and their customers would benefit from competetive wireless solutions!!

It is a mikrotik business decision. A few months ago with the failures of nv2 in the arm chips they made it clear... to this day they still don't work well. The company has decided to focus on other sectors such as routing.
