Help with inter subnets communication

Thu Jan 20, 2022 9:48 am

Hi,
I am new working with MicroTik, and have a hEX lite to configure.

I started with the default config and made a few changes, here is how it is setup and what it needs to do:

Port 1: WAN DHCP from ISP
Port 2/3/4: get IP addresses from the router DHCP server, 192.168.250.0/24
Port 1-4 are on the same bridge

Port 5: removed it from the bridge, set to static IP
172.16.8.214. This connects to a different network 172.16.8.0/22 where resides a SIP server at 172.16.8.250.

I need to have SIP, RTP and RTSP cross between port 5 and devices on port 2/3/4.

Devices on port 2/3/4 can call each other just fine in peer to peer mode of course, but while those are still in peer to peer, when I connect my laptop on port 5 and give myself 172.16.8.250 and try to call the devices, it does not work/they don’t ring.

I have tried firewall and NAT rules but could not get it to work, for example a device is 192.168.250.20, and I had a rule for dst-nat udp port 5060 from ether5 to that 250.20 address on port 5060 but no luck.

Thanks for any help!

Ideally let's see your full configuration. However just a few quick points meantime. Assuming you have all the default rules for firewall and NAT, check that your ether5 interface is in the "LAN" list. And for your two devices on that network, can you confirm that you are setting their default gateway to 172.16.8.214. And the devices on the 192.168.250.0 network have the router's IP address as their default gateway.

Thanks aesmith.

Silly me, had not set my gateway on the laptop to test. All working now, my laptop on port 5 @ IP 172.16.8.250 can call my devices in the 192.168.250.0 subnet on ports 2/3/4.
