Force 2.5G or 5G

Sat Aug 17, 2019 10:28 am

I've got CSR309/CRS305 pair with S+RJ10 SFP+'s.

Is it possible to fix the interface data rate to 2.5G or 5G?

Right now it auto-negotiates to 10G but the cabling isn't really good enough. RouterOS (haven't checked SwOS) doesn't give much options;
[admin@crs309-office] /interface ethernet> set name=sfp-sfpplus1 speed=
1Gbps 10Gbps 10Mbps 25Gbps 40Gbps 100Mbps

Open the interface configuration, click the ethernet port you want to setup, select the ethernet tab and remove the "advertise" checkmark(s) for rates you do not want to use.
Keep the speed on "auto negotiate".

It doesn't seem to work that way.

I had both ends set to only 1000M full and I got a 1 Gbit/s link.

I have both ends set to only do 1000M full or 2.5G full and I've got an unstable link and the other end is saying "Auto Negotiation: Done", "Rate: 10Gbps".

On the Status section it has a tick on all the speeds despite the Ethernet settings.

.. I disconnected both cables and now it auto-negotiated to 5 Gbps -- despite both settings saying just 1G and 2.5G. Now 10G is not selected on the Status section in "Link Partner Advertising".

resurecting. Setting negotiation rates still doesn't work on these.

I'm wanting to use this to copper feed a netpower 16 on the roof in a router-on-a-stick kind of setup. I don't know if I'm going to get a reliable 10G error free and I got these specific modules thinking I would be able to set 2.5G or 5G but no amount of messing around will get them to negotiate anything but 10G on my bench.

I'm having issues with a Netpower 16P uplink to a CCR2004 while having no issue with another Netpower 16P uplinked to the same CCR2004.
The main difference between both Netpowers is cabling length (15m for the working one, 25m for the non-working one).
I tried to reduce link speed to 2.5G but couldn't.
The issues I have are:
- temperature too high (confirmed)
- connectivity loss (unconfirmed)

It seems NbaseT standard requires autoneg.
I think I would much appreciate :
- either speed to be set-forced through RouterOS
- either SFP+ modules with fixed 2.5G or 5G speeds so that you don't need to mess with devices config (just replace one SFP+ with another one).

I'm testing between 2x RB4011, 2x RB5009, or a mix of one of those and a NP16. Every single one negotiates 10G even when I'm setting auto rates to 1, 2.5, 5 whatever, and they show advertised rates as the entire list not just what I've put in. ie, the advertised list is being ignored.

I have an rb5009 coming in in a few days.
I'm hoping to disconnect the sfp transceiver from my 2gb Google Fiber router box (Technicolor GFRG300 Router) and plug it directly into the rb5009 sfp+ port. The Google Fiber transceiver is 2.5g which normally would pair at max 1G on a 10G sfp+ port, such as the one on the rb5009.
Apparently people with ubiquiti gear were able to get it to negotiate at 2.5G thus being able to take full advantage of the 2Gb service.

I'm wondering if I'll be able to force it to negotiate at 2.5G
