hap ac^2 hardware diff

Thu Mar 24, 2022 3:18 pm

Probably is old topic but

1. What is the deal with RAM size (older vs new one) 128MB vs 256MB ?
2. Why I see IPQ-4019 as wireless on all hap ac^2 (older and new one) ?
3. is that a ROS7 bug (for wireless interface IPQ-4019) ? Or is really IPQ-4019 not IPQ-4018 ?!?!?!?!

Btw cAP AC with ros 6.49 show the same for wireless interface

1. RBD52G-5HacD2HnD-TC A.K.A. hAP ac² was always specified to have 128MB RAM. However, initial batches came out with 256MB RAM and the rumours go that MT had problem getting 128MB RAM chips so they used 256MB ones.

2. Because IPQ-401x SoC family includes IPQ-4018 and IPQ-4019 .. the later having some more options, but the main components (CPU, ethernet switch, wifi baseband, ...) are identical. As to why ROS displays radio name as 4019 and not 4018 ... your guess is as good as mine. FYI, ethernet switch is identified as "Atheros-8327" ... which is (or used to be) available as discrete chip, but Qualcomm includes the core of it into many of their SoCs.

3. As explained: it's cosmetic ... and it's the same in ROS v6 as well, so nothing new in v7. BTW, /system routerboard displays firmware type as "ipq4000L" ... so it seems pretty generic for a few different devices. Hence naming which is not entirely correct.

Interestingly the throughput specs are slightly lower on the hapac3.
In any case if you need the device for wired performance only the hapac2 is better value for the money.
If you need the wifi, I would hazard a guess that the hapac3 will perform better and is for all intensive purposes of the same wired performance.

The stated larger amounts of RAM and flash, in the hapac3 may provide better LOAD capacity but thats just a guess.
