Connecting hAP ac router to Chateau 5g as access point

Sat Apr 02, 2022 1:03 am

Hi

I am trying to connect hAP ac router to Chateau 4G as access point, but no luck. It works fine when I connect both as NAT, but this brings the issue of having separate networks. I want them to work seamlessly as single network. Here is the setup I am trying to do:

- 4G router gets it's IP from Mobile provider and has local IP 162.198.8.1. DHCP enabled with 162.198.100-162.198.200 range.
- hAP is connected to 4G's LAN with cable. It is set to "Home AP Dual" mode with static IP 162.198.8.2, gateway 162.198.8.1 and local IP 162.198.8.2. Net mask 255.255.255.0/24. DHCP and NAT disabled.

I see hAP's wifi network, but can't connect to it no matter what I do, no matter from what device.

Am I doing something wrong? I’ve looked around the forum seen similar problems, but can't really understand the proposed solution.

Seems it should just work, but it doesn't

Thank you!

In hap AC, put all ports (eth and wlan) under the same bridge. And then, set DHCP client for the bridge.
Afterwards, in Chateau DHCP server/leases, you can assign a manual static lease to hap ac, with the desired IP address.

Is this on top of settings I described?

Mixing QuickSet with manual config may lead to problems so I recommend starting fresh.
How I'd do, if I were in your situation - via Winbox on a computer connected eth to Chateau, connect to hap ac (this being also connected via eth to Chateau) and reset it with no default configuration (that would clear all, including firewall rules). Then, connect to it via MAC and do what I said earlier and configure wireless as well. Afterwards, hap ac will receive IP from Chateau and act as AP for your network.

When configuring hap ac's wireless, you can set the same SSID and auth. details but avoid setting same frequencies with what Chateau currently has.
