Traffic drop after 64 kByte

Thu Apr 14, 2022 7:16 pm

We had a strange problem with a connection between the internet and one customer network that occured while we had set a suboptimal route.

We have two internet connections that end in two CCR1072 (cr01 and cr02 in the diagram). Normally all outgoing traffic uses cr01 and some incoming traffic uses cr02. The customer network in question uses Router ccr01. The accompanying image shows the topology.

The problem occured when on cr02 the route to the customer network was set to ccr02 instead of ccr01 (read line instead of dashed green line). Although we had two hops more on the path then, traffic was forwarded to the customer network as long as it not exceeded 64 kByte per TCP session. After 64 kByte no datagrams left ccr02 until the TCP session was reset after 30 second. The TCP reset datagrams were forwarded.

We solved the problem for us by correcting the routes on cr02, but we would like to know if there is an inherent limit for traffic that leaves the MikroTik routers at the same interface as it was received.

Both CHR routers (ccr01, ccr02) have RouterOS version 6.46.8.

I have already filed a support request but maybe someone here in the forum may shed a light on that matter.
