Kernel panic after upgrade from 7.1 to 7.2 VPS x86 CHR

Sat Apr 09, 2022 3:04 am

Hello!

I have a CHR running in vmware esxi vm. Its a simple x86 instance.
I did upgrade in the webfig from 7.1.5 to 7.2.0. No extended packages only the routeros itself.
Now the CHR is bricked, not even boot. Im lost every access to it except the console. I attached the error message, its in a bootloop currently.
Any idea how can i recover from this?
I have config backup but if i reinstall the chr i will lost the license which i forgot the export..

Thanks, Peter

Re: Kernel panic after upgrade from 7.1 to 7.2 VPS x86 CCR

Update: I did reinstall a fresh 7.2.0 CHR to a different vps with the same virtual HW config. The system booted and worked, so i tried to restore the config backup of the original CHR. After the restore, the CHR rebooted and entered the same bootloop stage!
I did install a 7.1.5 version and do the same procedure, no bootloop. The configuration file restored and the CHR booted.
So the problem is either with the config or with the esxi VM HW config.
The original CHR is from the official mikrotik page, i downloaded the vmware appliance, nothing changed, or customized.

Re: Kernel panic after upgrade from 7.1 to 7.2 VPS x86 CHR  [SOLVED]

SOLVED:
It was deployed from the vmware applicance image. I reinstall from the ISO by hand and restore the config. It works.
So the issue is with the vmdk appliance image in somewhere. I transfered the license to the new install and everything is fine now.

Hello, in the title is wrote [SOLVED], how did you solved?.
I'm in same issue with two different CHR instances, but I have snapshot backup and I revert the update, now I'm workin on 7.1.5 forced.

In same time I did upgrade on quite new instances of CHR and no issue during update, maybe the difference is because is more old than another?

Did you find a solutions regard this?
Kind regard

I have the same error when trying to update microtka CHR VPS vsphere image downloaded from mikrotik website from version 6.49.6 to version 7.2.1. additionally there is a dude package. After installation I get such errors "no such file or directory no system package found chr microtik...."
What is the correct procedure for updating such an environment?

Same here... from 6.59.6 stable to v7.3 stable

this router isn't critical, but this will take me some time to get the dude up and running.

packages: iot, dude, userman and regular package
first i disabled kvm before the update, cause v7 lack that package
