Kernel Crash when adding WG Peer 7.1beta6

Fri Jul 02, 2021 10:53 am

Hello

I'm trying to configure a Wireguard connection with 7.1beta6 on CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+. But always after adding the Peer it crashes.

The Interface can be configured without issues:
[admin@MikroTik] > /interface wireguard print
Flags: X - disabled; R - running
 0 R name="rbg0" mtu=1420 listen-port=5037 private-key="xxx"

But after adding a Peer it crashes after a few seconds:
[admin@MikroTik] > /interface wireguard peers add interface=rbg0 endpoint-address=xx.xxx.xxx.xx endpoint-port=51820 persistent-keepalive=25 public-key="xxx" allowed-address=192.168.99.0/24
[admin@MikroTik] > packet_write_wait: Connection to 172.16.90.104 port 22: Broken pipe

It then beeps and I can login again. After Logging in it reports a Kernel failure (and crashes again after a few seconds until I remove the Wireguard peer):
jan/02/1970 01:00:10 system, error, critical router was rebooted without proper shutdown, probably kernel failure
jan/02/1970 01:00:10 system, error, critical kernel failure in previous boot

I just tried it with the Cloud Hosted Router Image, also version 7.1beta6, with the exact same Configuration. With the Cloud Hosted Router Image I don't get a Kernel Crash. Can someone from Mikrotik confirm this Bug?

Are you observing this in a fresh install too or did you upgrade from previous betas? There was a change in peers format in I believe beta 5.

This device was directly upgraded from 6.47 to 7.1beta6. Thus, also the Wireguard configuration was made on 7.1beta6.

I've now performed a Reset Configuration and afterwards ran my two WG config commands again. This time WG is working without Kernel Crash. I have no explanation for this. Maybe something weird happened during Update 6.47->7.1beta6 which prevented WG to work.

In general it's understood that the raw configuration format is not stable in beta. If I have to guess developers are only testing upgrade between the newest v6 (i.e. not the stable one) and newest v7.
