Disabling hardware offload on changes to bridge and vlan config

Wed Feb 02, 2022 6:26 pm

Hi all

The official documentation recommends that you disable l3 hardware offloading prior to any changes being made to configs under bridge or vlan and then re-enable after. I have two questions regarding this:

1) Does that also include something as simple as changing the name? For example, re-naming a VLAN interface. Technically this constitutes as a change in the vlan configuration.
2) What happens if you don't do that? Human error for example. You made your changes but forgot to disable prior to it? And is recovery simply issuing a disable and then re-enable after? Or its start over?

If device types matter, this is with the CRS line of switches.

My bad experiance is after accidently changing STP on the bridge with L3HW offload active that I lost IPv6 on all 5 CRS3xx switches.
Even a factory reset and reconfigiuration didn´t fix it. No IPv6 anymore...
What I didn´t tried yet is a netinstall.
IPv4 is running all the time.....
