Install RouterOS using Netinstall on x86 system

Sun Jun 29, 2014 8:09 pm

Hi everyone,

I was able to recover a routerboard by reinstalling the OS using netinstall which had a lot of handy tutorials
around to get it done.

Now I have an x86 system that I can't have access to because I don't even remotely remember the login details
I used since I left it for a while and would like to reinstall the RouterOS using NetInstall.

Can anyone point me to a resource that can explain how I can get it done because most of the tutorials I've seen on
using Netinstall requires that you Press and Hold the reset button. But in the case of Mikrotik on PC how do I achieve that?

If using Netinstall is not an option on PC how can I reinstall Mikrotik freshly without losing my license?

Thanks in advance

Netinstall is available for x86. I just used it the other day. When booting your server choose network boot from the BIOS boot menu.

When booting your server choose network boot from the BIOS boot menu.
I really wish you would explain this in more details..
Let me elaborate on what I think you meant.. I will be happy to be corrected.

1. which server are you referring to? I assume you are talking about the pc that I run UserManager on.
please am I correct?

2. Now I should boot that server in network mode using the boot options from the BIOS boot menu

3. then run netinstall on the said server?

Can you kindly confirm if I'm on track.
Thanks

1) run netinstall on the network that your x86 router is connected to.
2) using user manual of your x86 box motherboard navigate through bios to enable network boot on the interface/interfaaces
3) reboot the router and see if it starts booting from your netinstall
4) please note that files may be lost on the router even with save-configuration checked.

5) reinstall router

I tried to perform an installation via netinstall on a more modern system with an Intel network card and I couldn't, I had the error:

NBP IS TOO BIG TO FIT IN FREE BASE MEMORY

searching the internet I found information that if UEFI was activated it would increase the memory to pxe, but even changing it, I didn’t succeed.

Hi,
netinstall-7.2.3.zip and netinstall-6.48.6.zip have this problem too.
I don`t know that to do with this issue:(
