Netwatch driving me Crazy

Wed May 11, 2022 11:23 am

Goodmorning All

I have done 2 Netwatch scripts to check my internet connection and change the mangle rule if one fails.

At the moment my main connection is not responding with a local ping so that means Netwatch should execute the Down script.

In my Log I see Netwatch executing the Down Script then it will execute the Up script which I know it is not UP.

Any help and pointing in the right direction would be helpful..

I have attached Screen shot of Netwatch status in routes & if you click on it what you see, Netwatch showing that it is UP which I can see it is not.

Thanks in advance

Sarky

If the route is Invalid, is not applied.
If the IP when connection is down is not reachable anymore, the route is Invalid, and 8.8.4.4 is reachable from the other WAN...

Ok thanks for your reply it makes sense what you are saying.

The Gateway is the ISP Router in the office which for some reason is down so I suppose in a situation like this
I should do another net watch to confirm if it is down and if down to disable the netwatch for that ISP does that sound
right ?

I have try to explain why do not work what you expect.

But for more questions, is better explain what you want obtain at the end, instead to try to use netwatch...
Read this first:
https://xyproblem.info/
You need simply a dual WAN failover???
The forum is full of different user cases.... just search...
Or if needed open directly your topic with help request, explaining the needs and how are actually configured the devices.
(NO guess games, please...)

The point I wanted to make is that if your internet is down, how do you expect to be told about it??
Assuming you meant you wanted to get an email or telegram message? Really not possible unless you have somebody monitoring your internet.

As for failover..........this is some guidance - Para's I-thru-K - viewtopic.php?t=182373
