Route public /24 ip block to clients and no nat

Sun Apr 10, 2022 7:32 pm

Hi there, this may sound stupid

We just got a /24 ip block from ARIN, and we would like to know how we can distribute our /24 block example 1.1.1.1/24 to our clients with NO nat

Is that something possible the mikrotik can rb3011 can do?

Thank you!

Yes the routers can route.

There are a few ways to do this:

Here are some references from an article I wrote on WISP network design (most of the concepts are relevant even if this isn't a WISP)

https://stubarea51.net/2020/03/03/start ... hitecture/

1) If the network is connected at L2, you can build the 3011 as the L3 GW and distribute out to the subscribers.

2) If the network is routed, you can break the subnet apart and route to each smaller prefix

3) If you are able to run MPLS, the subnet can be aggregated back at a core location and VPLS can be used to join subscribers into the /24

From a throughput perspective, a 3011 might not be the most ideal - i'd consider a 4011 or smaller CCR.

DHCP?

Question though.. Is your ISP advertising your /24 and routing it to you?
