Update RouterOS

Fri May 13, 2022 7:53 pm

Hi
I have a Mikrotek Chateau LTE12 5G Router. The RouterOS is v7.1beta5 (development).
It tells me that the Latest Version is 6.49.6.
I have tried to Download and the Download and Install numereous times.
It tells me that it downloads the new OS, but after reboot it is still the old v7.1beta5 that is on the router.
What can I do to make the update happen?
The router works, but I find that the internet is too slow.
I get a download speed of 15 Mb/s. My phone next to it using the same good 5G network gets 291 Mb/s.
This is not impressing and I hope a RouterOS update can improve this.

CHATEAU LTE12 IS V7 ONLY!

Download the latest 7.2.3 stable for ARM here:

https://mikrotik.com/download

Use Winbox to and drag and drop the package you downloaded to Files and reboot.

For future upgrades you will be able to use the normal SYSTEM/PACKAGES method to update.

Edit - The Chateau LTE12 is a 4G device. The Chateau LTE18 is 5G and the same upgrade procedure above applies.

You are using the WRONG "update Channel".

In winbox tool, open : SYSTEM --> Packages , and make sure you select "Channel" --> STABLE!!! (and not long term)

Then check for update and it should say 7.2.3!

Download and install SW.
Once rebooted, go to : SYSTEM --> Routerboard --> click upgrade, and once it says in red update done, reboot.

Last but not least, go back into winbox, open LTE interface, and click on "check firmware".
If there is a new firmware for the modem (which might be the case), upgrade...

So is it any advantages of v7 on hAP ac2? I have still v6, so I only ask..what is better for throughput/performance.
v7 has only newer kernel, but is it some advantage?
Thank you.

The only major advantage of v7 over v6 at this time is support for wireguard. If you don't need it and you don't want to get frustrated because of some (minor?) problems present in v7, then you better stay on v6 until ROS version 7.4 or something.
My 2 cents...

Yeah, but do you have any personal experiences of v6 vs v7? bandwidth, more CPU performance...? I mean on LTE, or wifi...Better speedtest on v7?
Thanks

@winap, here is the changelog https://mikrotik.com/download/changelogs
You can see all the fixes and improvements that are made on V7 as far as the LTE is concerned... Its not always about performance only...

@Zacharias:
Yes I know it, but this is no use comparison changelog of v6 and v7. Most of them is fixed bugs in v7.
v7 still use more CPU and it's still buggy over v6.
When I see comparsion between v6 and v7 and good performance, it is good reason to install it, but I still see it doesn't function good, still some leaks, some reboot after few days..
This isn't normal firmware and Mikrotik know it..so now are developers moved from v6 to help with v7..that's the reason, so the beta is almost every 2 weeks and v6 still on 6.49.6.
But no this forum is not visible any comparsion between v6 and v7, if you know about some graps, please post link. Thank you
