which router has a sound option and which does not

Fri Jun 17, 2022 10:35 pm

hello, is there a way to determine in advance which router has a sound option and which does not. Yesterday I bought a hAP ac³ which is not cheap and with great disappointment I found that it does not play sounds

Check HW specifications upfront.
If it shows beeper ( like Hex) , it can play sound.

We can debate but for what it can do, I consider ac3 not that expensive.

I do not agree. In some cases the hardware descriptions are not accurate because RB2011 and RB951 have sound but in the description it is not added.

Well then, if it is not shown in the specifications, you're not sure.
If it IS shown, you ARE sure.

But ... there is more to be investigated.
On e.g. block diagram of RB951 it's pretty visible it is present.

How did you come up with RB2011 ? From what I could find, it does not have a beeper. Not in specs, not on block diagram, not from user feedback (unless they changed the design since 2013)

Why do you need a beeper ?

If you place it close to your laser/inkjet printer, then while printing papers you can make router emit screeching noise of dot-matrix printer doing its job to make self more comfortable

Beeper is very useful to me. When you lose connection with gateway, router playig "Star Wars" music and when ping is ok ringing like phone.

You can see it is even omitted in the diagram
I have 2011UAS-2HnD in my office and in home and there have perfect beeper.

I purchased hAP ac³ unit for a small hotel and was surprised to find that there is none beeper

Well, you are most likely right but on the very own site of Mikrotik, I see this:

https://i.mt.lv/cdn/product_files/Block ... 130546.pdf
No beeper shown.

But brochure (https://i.mt.lv/cdn/product_files/RB201 ... 201121.pdf) lists beeper among extras ...

I think we can conclude that as with SW version management, document release management also can use some additional attention and overhaul ...

Something which is considered heavy (mostly exaggerated) but helps IMMENSELY in almost any organization, prepare for an ISO audit.

EDIT: looking at differences, even the power inputs are different. Product brochure: up to 28V. Block diagram: up to 30V shown.

Re: which router has a sound option and which does not  [SOLVED]

Tue Jul 05, 2022 3:50 pm

for what it's worth, i was delighted to be surprised by an audible BEEP upon plugging in my CRS317 which absolutely does not list a beeper on its block diagram... i definitely agree that the documentation should accurately reflect the hardware in use and device capabilities, but my unrealistic remedy would be simply to add a beeper to all future products - piezo buzzers are cheap, they're (arguably) useful, and they're just plain charming and fun sometimes :)
