Wireless interfaces randomly unavailable using capsman

Tue Jul 12, 2022 5:54 pm

Greetings!

I'm using capsman with two cap-5ac.
I did noticed that sometimes one or both interfaces (2ghz or 5ghz) on any cap just stops working. The clients get disconnected and the interface does not come back by itself. I need to login on the routerboard and manually reboot.
After the reboot, it will work again for a random number of days, until it just stops and a new reboot is required.
I've tried to look in the logs, but couldn't find any information close to the moment when the wireless stopped working.

EDIT: On capsman -> interface list, the interface that stopped working is not DRMB anymore, it's showing as DMB only.

Any ideas or suggestions of what to look for?

Thank you

Is the access point mounted on the wall or on the ceiling?
No R means that there are no devices connected to this interface

Both access points are mounted to the wall.
Early in this morning, when I had this issue, the 2ghz interface had stopped but the 5ghz interface was working without any issue on the same access point.

I've noticed this behavior specifically when installing access points on the wall under the ceiling.
But the picture shows standard operation. You can't tell from it that the interface is not working. The shown status just shows that there are no clients connected to the interface. But whether it works or not by this state can not be determined.

This issue is still happening, I still can't find no information regarding of why the interface stops working.
It simply stops working randomly (different access points and different radios 2/5Ghz)

Any other ideas of what to look for?

I don't like to say, but I guess that I will need to schedule a "daily reboot" until I can find what's going on. :(

thank you

Welcome to my world in 2018.

When I had to admit I made a serious error basing systems on Mikrotik WiFi.

I wrote all sorts of schedules and netwatches to restart the radio interfaces.

Several months of back and forth with Mikrotik and they told me, "it's your environment". Problem was that my environment was everywhere I worked. Issues at nearly a hundred sites.

Gave in and went back to our other wifi vendor. They cost more... But they actually work.

I like mikrotik. It's a great option with quality and an affordable price.

But yes, maybe I will have to write some kind of monitoring script to reboot the caps if one of the interfaces stops working or disable the capsman setup and go back to a regular AP setup (I don't know what is worse here).

Mikrotik makes some GREAT STUFF.
I used there routers for EVERYTHING.
The 60GHZ PtP link are my current favorite.
The 24 Port Switches have been great. The 48s are still stuck with shutting down ports. Ergo I stick 2 CRS236s in a job rather than chance it with the 354.

The client serving WiFi has "quirks" and failures that we can't afford.

And if Caps-Man could control a radio with performance like my other vendors... I WOULD COME RUNNING BACK!

But for now... it just doesn't make sense for me to "save the customer a buck, just to give them problems."
