PPPoE client on bridge

Wed Jul 13, 2022 3:58 am

Hi all,

I have the following setup:

ISP modem (bridge, no auth here) -> dumb switch -> RB4011 (PPPoE auth here) -> dumb switch (same cable as before) -> computers

where both the cable for the ISP modem and the dumb switch are on eth1. For cabling reasons, I can't change this, so both the PPPoE connection between the ISP modem and the RB4011 and the connection between the dumb switch and some computers are on the same port, eth1. If I configure eth1 only for PPPoE, the connection works, but no computer behind the dumb switch can get DHCP. The only way I've found to make this work is to put PPPoE on the bridge and include eth1 on the bridge. This way the RB4011 can connect to the ISP and the computers behind the dumb switch can see DHCP. Is there a better way to do this? Are there any security risks on my current setup? Thanks.
