ROS 7 IPv6 throughput tuning?

Fri Jul 22, 2022 11:54 am

Hey,

I am currently using a hEX-S which - generally - is working fine.
A big issue for me right now is the limited IPv6 throughput. It is quite noticeable in day to day activities (like larger ISO downloads, steam updates (quite frustrating having to wait 3x the time to test your new gaming system ;), ...)

I read (all/most?) threads that mention this, I am aware of the route cache no longer being a thing, I am aware that fasttrack for IPv6 is not yet available, ...

Now I am looking for anything in my config I could tune to improve my throughput.
What I already learned is that adding a "raw" firewall rule setting "no track" increases my throughput from ~230 mbit/s to ~255 mbit/s (tests fluctuate a bit but the 20mbit/s more seem reliable).

What else is there that I could tune?
I really do not want to go back to the Fritz!Box my ISP provided.

Thanks!

In ROS 6 you could've gone YOLO and disable the IPv6 firewall and leaving your devices to secure themselves and you could've gained a few hundred Mbps if I remember right.
In ROS 7 this is no longer the case, removing all the firewall rules has very little impact on throughput, sadly.
You need something with a little more CPU power, like RB4011, RB5009.
