Fri Aug 19, 2022 5:22 pm

I saw this as an available upgrade on my RG260GS

What's new in v2.15:

*) factory only release

What's new in v2.14:

*) factory only release

Is this by mistake?

My guess: Factory only releases are for changed components (different memory chips, different power management controller etc..)

Older devices will not have those changed components and do not need a software update.

In ROS (same vendor) we have firmware file (called routerboot) with version number always matching ROS version number. For older devices most of times the difference against previous is only in version number. And yet ROS persistently offers to upgrade firmware.

My point being: for simplicity of maintenance of a fleet of devices it's good to have the releases for all devices so admins don't have to keep track of latest versions for different device models. (This, BTW, was more or less the reasoning behind the change of firmware versioning ... I just re-phrased it)

Wow... that is really not what I was expecting from a new SwOS release.
Is it so hard to finally push out a bugfix release for existing devices?

This is also very confusing. Both my CRS312-4C+8XG and my CRS305-1G-4S+ are showing

What's new in v2.15:

*) factory only release

What's new in v2.14:

*) factory only release

However when you click "Download & Upgrade" you get the following error - ERROR: Could not retrieve firmware. A factual explanation would be nice.

I see the same issue on CRS326-24G-2S+ devices. It reports "ERROR: Could not retrieve firmware". So what is the solution here? Do we have to wait until the update files appear, or can this just be ignored?

Why release a new version when there are no bugfixes in it?

Hello,
There was an error in the SwOS upgrade server which provided false information about SwOS 2.14 and 2.15 releases.
It has been fixed now and the SwOS 2.13 is back.
Soon it is planned to make an actual public release of the new SwOS version with bugfixes and new features.
