Use two 20 mhz channels instead of one 40 mhz

Thu Aug 25, 2022 2:34 am

Is there a way to use two 20 mhz channels instead of one 40 mhz channel? There is never enough clear frequency to get a good 40 mhz channel. And even then I can't get 200 mbps throughput on a 40 mhz channel. But I can get a solid 100 mbps on one 20 mhz channel. Would be nice to use two 20 mhz channels in different areas of the spectrum and combine the throughput to get 200 mbps throughput.

Doesn't 40MHz just bond two 20MHz channels?

{Removed unneded quotation}
As long as they are adjacent. The TS requests two non-adjacent frequencies which is impossible for the radio.

Actually, I don't know of any manufacturer who with only one radio can transmit and use two different non-adjacent channels.
I only know devices where you can have different tx and rx channels.

I don't think that lack of support for 20+20 channels is unavoidable limitation of wireless chips. It's rather lack of standardization (pretty similar to support for channels narrower than 20MHz) which then caused lack of implementation of such channel configuration. Proof that it is possibke to implement non-adjacent channel configuration is support for 80+80 channels (indeed not every device supporting 160MHz channels supports 80+80).
