How to restore to factory firmware

Tue Oct 18, 2022 3:54 pm

Recently I need a very old version of the firmware for a network experiment, but my attempt to download the old firmware failed, I would like to ask if there is any other way to factory reset the firmware. CRS305

It would require the software, what version are you looking for?

Sorry, wasn't aware that this device is running SWoS.
Can't you manually change the URL to a previous version? Any reason on why you want (or have) to downgrade?

Manual downloads are only possible up to version 2.10, older versions are not available. I had a little experiment that might need a version old enough to take advantage of his bug.😂

Is it possible to load the "backup" firmware which is the one the device came with?

https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/SwOS/CRS ... _Reinstall
It is possible to load a SwOS backup firmware in case standard firmware breaks or upgrade fails:
Connect to the device using a serial console
Boot SwOS
Choose "p - boot primary SwOS"
After loading backup firmware, it is possible to connect to 192.168.88.1 using a web browser and install new SwOS firmware.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll try it tomorrow, I'm not sure if he has a previous version of the firmware present.😁

NO. This feature is not available at all, on any MikroTik device.

On previous version the file is called swos-crs3051g4s-2.8.bin but is for internal use only.

For install previous 2.8, boot on RouterOS, downgrade to version that contain 2.8 (6.42.10), upgrade from RouterOS the SwOS (2.8p), then reboot on SwOS mode.

I may not understand your explanation very well. I don't think downgrading the routeros firmware will get an earlier version of SwOS because I tried overnight without success.🤣
