CRS326 as Backbone Switch under OS 7.6, a wrong choice?

Wed Nov 23, 2022 10:42 am

Hello,

i'm try to update a network for a company with some mikrotik parts:
The idea:
The master is a CRS326 and 2x CRS354 in the server room.

I use router OS 7.6, why:

- Bonding multiple SFP+ Ports between the CRS for high throuput
- Multiple VLAN on every Bond, every VLAN on own Bridge
- CRS326 is Capsman Master for 4x hap Wlan Access point
- CRS326 is connected to "double HA" PFsense Firewall appliance
- Connect existing Server Backbone Dell S4048on
- NO Firewall/DNS/DHCP activity on the CRS..... parts

I don't understand to realize this with SwitchOS (VLAN's on Bonds)

It works, but i feel not happy:

The CRS326 runs 2 times "Out of memory", the free memory go to "0", connect with Winbox ist impossible,
the network function itself is running but sometime a little bit slower. (Restart with pull "Power Cord's")

After reboot the free Memory is only around 10MB, why, a hap ac2 has 64MB free Ram.
Same on the 2x CRS354, only 10MB Ram free after reboot.

The question is, was Router OS the wrong choice for my application?

Better to split switch function and router function on different mikrotik parts?

Any opinion to this?

Thanks
Thorty

Thanks

- why use a seperate bridge for every VLAN when working with CRS3xx hardware? they can do this in hw-offload mode (i use it myself on a CRS326-24G-2S+)

- "double HA"? so a HA (which doubles the appliance per design) of an HA (4 firewalls then?)

don't faciliate that in swOS - stay with rOS, you are way more flexible

always! (yes this comes with some added cost but in the long run it is always the better solution)
