Re: v7.7beta [testing] is released!

Mon Dec 05, 2022 7:42 pm

I would expect that this "new naming scheme" is seen as an improvement, and you have to live with it for once.
Totally, for external drives and fresh install, this change makes total sense and "improved".
Sequentially assigning names like "disk1" probably caused problems for others, e.g. when they plugged in a USB stick and rebooted.
So issue may be more specific to the "Dude Edition" since it has what perhaps looks like "external storage", but isn't.

See on the RB1100AHx4+Dude, it's actually the included, built-in SSD disk from Mikrotik... That, not here, but could, have a running dude instance that referenced "disk1", etc. On a clean install this make sense, but perhaps some special handling for the RB1100 to NOT do this on upgrade OR fix any paths in config that might use "disk1" in path for things. We use these RB1100 is few places, so an upgrade that potentially breaks the dude would not be good, is my concern here.

Looks like Mikrotik Hap Lite is running out of free space to install further updates. What could be improved here apart from buying new hardware?
It only has 32Mb of RAM, what do you expect ? It has been announced already by MT staff ROS7 is not intented for those devices (even if it may work).
You could try netinstall instead of normal upgrade.
Otherwise the alternative will be to stay on current version of ROS7 or go back to ROS6.
The SMIPS v7 release should be pulled if this is the case.

In 7.6 I see that the disk and partition on my CCR2116 are named "nvme1" and "nmve1-part1" respectively; a setting under "/disk" shows "set nvme1-part1 name=disk1".

So it looks like it can be changed manually, which makes me wonder how much of the "enhancement" is taken care of automatically, i.e. fresh install vs. renaming after the fact (during upgrade).

And it's the first time I've noticed the "name-tcp-export", "iscsi-export", and "nfs-export". Boy would those be useful.

Thank you for your reprots. We have managed to reproduce 7.7beta9 DNS type=FWD entry issue and will try to fix it as soon as possible.

Sorry strods, I was out. In my case was even simpler: a brand new ax2 just rebooted with default configuration cannot resolve DNS queries when default gateway is used as DNS server. The router itself is able to ping google.com, but not a client behind the router using 192.168.88.1 as DNS. "allow remote requests" is checked, by default.

Kind regards.

Should I expect the file system on RouterOS to go from using "disk1" to "sata1-part1" as the "root" directory name?
Disks will now carry names where they are physical connected - it will make finding physical disk much easier. After formatting, there will be no issues with name changes (disk1 to disk2 for example) as well as this will fix some disks, that changes their names on reboots or re-plugs.
For larger disk arrays this will make much more sense -
/disk print
....
 6 pcie1-sas-expander1-sata1 TOSHIBA MG07ACA1 3.5in 7200rpm 71U0A2J7Fxxx SATA 6.0 Gbit
 7 pcie1-sas-expander1-sata2 TOSHIBA MG07ACA1 3.5in 7200rpm 71U0A2JSxxxx SATA 6.0 Gbit
 8 pcie1-sas-expander1-sata3 TOSHIBA MG07ACA1 3.5in 7200rpm 91M0A181Fxxx SATA 6.0 Gbit

Hi all!
Has anyone tried using ChaChaPoly1305 IKEv2?
strongswan customer goes crazy
It works for me between StrongSwan 5.9.8 on Ubuntu and RouterOS. Can you post your relevant IPsec configuration? Did you check the logs on RouterOS side? You can enable debug logging with this command:
/system logging add topics=ipsec,!packet

Can you please send us the supout.rif file from your device which is generated as soon as possible after a failed connection attempt with the debug logs still enabled to support@mikrotik.com?

This makes sense to me, actually a good change. Just surprising.

FWIW, I won't mind being surprised by a "/file aliases feature" so you could have a "fake folder" that reference one of the new "bus-partition" names. Or, at least script-accessible way to know the "default disk" - before this change, you could assume "/flash" or "/disk1".

Maybe it could be combined with a new feature to have RAMdisk on ALL devices with sufficient RAM (not only those with insufficient flash) and a compatible
and predictable way to store persistent and nonpersistent files?

Don't disagree. For container images, their "bus-partition" scheme is great since it's explicit on the physical part. But the flip side is in scripting, you just want a stable name to use. I'm just glad there doing something on this front.

For v7.7 beta 9, there is still problem for CAPsMAN. I used beta 9 in CAPsMAN and the other APs used v7.6

I can see SSIDs up and AP all connected to CAPsMAN. However, after sometimes, wifi login failed. Seems authentication parts or others problem. Wired connection is ok.

I revert the CAPsMAN back to v7.6 stable, connection is normal.

I can only go back to v7.6 stable
Change the download link yourself.
E.g. for arm
https://download.mikrotik.com/routeros/ ... a9-arm.npk
Change 7.7beta9 to 7.7beta6

https://download.mikrotik.com/routeros/ ... a6-arm.npk

Drop the NPK on your Files section and reboot.

Re: v7.7beta [testing] is released!

On 7.4.1 and 7.6 with CRS3xx routers/switches (particularly 317 and 310), I'm seeing issues where OSPF updates are happening due to link failure and restoration, but the routes don't propagate down to the ASIC without disabling and reenabling L3HW offload. Despite what the routing table says, it still sends traffic the old/backup way.

Has/is this being addressed in 7.7? I don't see anything in the release notes specifically.
