Layer 3 Configuration

Wed Dec 14, 2022 8:05 pm

Hello, everyone.

I plan on implementing a few new Mikrotik routers in our company network but have one particular question. I am trying to convert our flat network into more where we have a core switch controlling the routing between the various switches. I have decided that the CRS326-24S+2Q+RM looks to be a perfect candidate to be used as the core switch but I am completely unfamiliar with this product and I know a bit of configuration is going to be needed. How does one go about having this unit as the core where other switches will connect back to it and have it route the traffic to a firewall, Sophos XG firewall to be exact. I assume it needs to be configured using RouterOS mode to get the Layer 3 features of controlling traffic to the other switches.

Are they any setup configurations to be had, everything I have found is using these routers as switches with SWOS. Thank you.

I would start with the L3 hw offload docs as they describe inter vlan routing and ptp routing pretty well.

Here is an example config with the switch behind firewall/NAT
