Easily prevent one host from saturating upload bandwidth.

Hi,

Yesterday, someone on my home network brought the internet connection to a standstill by uploading a large file to onedrive.

Frustrated by this, I looked for solutions and learned that QoS could help.

My crappy vendor-supplied ("award winning" so hey say!) DSL router doesn't support QoS, so my plan is to put a device in between it and the rest of the network. A friend suggested a Ubiquiti Edgerouter X, but as I'm sure you are aware, good luck finding stock. I searched for alternatives and found the Mikrotik hEX S.

I haven't bought one yet. First I'd like to know if I can use the hex S to "fairly" share the available bandwidth of my network?

Had I found an Edgerouter X, I was under the impression I'd select the "Fair Queue" QoS policy (https://help.ui.com/hc/en-us/articles/2 ... ice-QoS-#2) and be done with it (?).

In the Microtik OS it looks like I'd have to write some rules by hand (e.g. viewtopic.php?t=73214 and maybe https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:HTB).

Am I right, or is there an "easy way"?

I'm not allergic to writing network configurations (written a fair amount of `pf.conf`s in my time), but time and motivation is limited these days :)

Thanks
