How to lower Wireless TX Power

Fri Jan 20, 2023 5:42 pm

Hi there,

I'm quite new to Mikrotik, I have an Mikrotik RB941-2ND-TC.

I'm wondering how can I lower the Wireless TX power because I placed the Mikrotik AP near the TV and so near to my sofa.
I don't like to have WiFi transmitter close to my body :)

Which are the lower value can I set?

Thanks in advance for the help,
Federico

Think it requires advanced options (push the advanced button to get the tab):

You can try to set even negative numbers (6.49.6 on hAP ac2 says valid settings are between -30 and 40). Default is something around 25 (or less depending on country regulations), so you can try to set it to 0 (since dBm are logaritmic values with 0 meaning 1mW, 25 dB lower than currently running value means 300x less power measured in Watts). Then check performance of your wireless clients and coverage if it's still acceptable.

In reality many RF power amplifiers (specially those in cheap devices) are not really capable of low output power (and QC doesn't focus on that), so don't expect to see proper effect when setting negative values.
