Can't log in after reset.

Sat Feb 04, 2023 1:59 pm

Hello,

I was messing up in the configuration of my wAP LTE 6 KIT (wanted to use it as a broadband router, not GSM), and now, i can’t connect to it at all. I was trying to factory reset. Unplug device, press RESET, and hold for some time (usually until led start blinking). It always worked on other mikrotik routers, but this time. It does not. It feels it’s doing reset (i see later blinking leds near both lan ports), but after that, i can’t connect to the router. It is plugged in directly to my computer over LAN,. but my computer does not get IP address. It says LAN has a self-assigned IP address and will not be able to connect to the Internet and shows that creepy 169.254.147.7 IP. If i remember correctly it suppose to show new SSID, something like Mikrotik45353 or so. But i can’t see SSID, and LAN does not give me IP address. Any suggestions on how to solve it?

Thank you.

Default ROS address is 192.168.88.1, try to set manually on your os lan interface IP for eg. 192.168.88.2. User sholud be admin w/o password. There is also option to connect over MAC address, on Winbox is Neighbours tab, if there is a listed MAC address for your Mikrotik device you sholud able to connect w/o setting manual IP on your interface. In Winbox set Tools->Legacy Mode if you are unable to log in without that mode.

Thank you.
I've tried to set my computers ip to 192.168.88.2
But it can't ping 192.168.88.1 (mikrotik) or can't access https://192.168.88.1 or http://192.168.88.1

If you are sure that you don't have some issue with physical connection to router (cable/lan port/lan controller), try to restore ROS over Netinstall, see https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Netinstall
I had to do it for my router few times.

Dear Optio, thank you! You saved me!
I've managed to connect over winbox directly to MAC address. That's cool.

What is NOT cool, that Mikrotik engineers managed to f*ck up the "reset" button adding to it additional functions.
First of all, reset button should work as RESET. If you want to add additional functions on it, MAKE IT HARD . Doing easy way (pressing and holding) should work ONLY as a RESET. That's what people expect from RESET button.

I guess that your ruter entered into netboot mode when pressing reset button too long :)

99,99999% you are right :)
i also think that happened exactly this. And if both of us right, then again, big shame on Mikrotik engineers, that made these two absolutely different things on such a small few seconds gap. If i was at their place. I would make these additional function much more difficult to switch. Lets say you have to double or triple click that button before or after holding. I mean reset should be easy to do, while for additional functions you have to know _exactly_ what are you doing.

Any way. Thank you for your ideas once again. You saved my day! :)

good luck!

Hi, Dears!

I have faced with the same problem on my new mikrotik rb5009. But now i can't connect with mikrotik anyway: niether ip nor mac, niether winbox nor netinstall.
What I have done before my fail:
1. I reset default config via winbox;
2. I tried to install backup from another mikrotik;
3. It rebooted and i can't to connect with mikrotik;
4. I tried to reset, but i can't connect with mikrotik.

Please, help.

Is it possible, that I have killed my mikrotik??
