Mounting two CSS610 units in a single U?

Fri Feb 03, 2023 10:22 pm

Hello, this is a question more on hardware than software. Are there any plans to create a bracket to mount two CSS610 units together in a 1U space, similar to the RB5009 routers and their bracket?

I have the POE model and considering getting the non POE model. Option B would be to use a 1U shelf but a single mounted piece would look nicer.

CSS610 seems to be a tad too high to fit 1U. Brochure says height is 50mm while 1U net height is 44.45 (minus fraction of a mm for inter-device gap). Yes, it does come with rack mount ears, but will obviously eat into space below and above.
It also seems too wide to fit two horizontally in parallel into 19" rack: brochure declares width of 272mm (so two would need at least 544mm), net space between mounting posts in 19" rack is 450.85mm.

Compare CSS610 dimensions (272mmx50mm) to dimensions of RB5009, which was designed to be mounted 4 in a 1Unspace (in 2x2 matrix), which is 220mmx22mm.

When MT introduced RB5009, there were many expressing hopes for MT releasing some other device types (switches) in exactly the same form so that they could be mounted in same way as RB5009 can be. Ideally those other devices would stick to RB5009 external looks so tgat tgey would look well when mounted in same 2x2 matrix. We still hope to see this happen

The non-POE version has the dimensions listed on its product page, the max dimension being 20 cm or 7.9". I need to measure the POE version that I have but if it matches the non-POE version then two side by side should be be able to fit in a 1U space. Height wise it's 4.6 cm which should clear a 1U slot.

You're right, the non-PoE version is smaller. Height of 46mm still exceeds 1U height (44.45mm max) so it would really be "violence against other rack gear" if one wanted to mount those in 1U space between other rack gear. Let alone if one wanted to mount several of these units in adjacent 1U spaces.

I would really love if MT designers thought about that when designing devices which might be rack-mounted (specially so if rack-mount ears come included).

I measured my CSS610-8P-2S+IN and the dimensions are 10.75" wide, 1.75" high, and 7.875" deep.

CSS610-8G dimensions were incorrect in our homepage, we fixed it now.

Yep, got one, looks good. How would one mount it on a wall? I have a shelf stand-by in any case.
