Idea for a new Switch (8x 2.5G RJ45 + 2x SFP+)

Wed Mar 01, 2023 12:28 pm

Hello

Now with the new ax wireless devices and multigigabit wan links, I think that we need a option for a "affordable" 2.5G switch with 10G uplinks, for me a good idea would be something like the CSS610, but with 2.5G ports instead the 1G ones, PoE optional.
For me SwOS is fine as only L2 is needed for it.

I thkink that at the moment we do not have a option for a L2 managed switch like that, UniFi has one, but you'll need to pay the "UniFi tax", ofc the usual suspects(read cisco/aruba) have, but way expensive .

Personally I think Mikrotik should stop releasing dumb equipment with great numbers. There are already cheap stuff on Aliexpress for those who just want the numbers.

With that said. A 24/48 1G+2.5G combo switch with and without PoE and maybe 2-4 SFPs would not hurt. But NOT with SwOS.

For me, Aliexpress has no place in my network infrastructure. There is no reason to both a "small" and bigger 24/48 one.

for pure L2 Switch, SwOS is unbeatable, easy to configure, fast startup.
an dual boot like in the CRS305 would be great.
