CSS610-8P-2S+IN Switch - pre purchase technical question

Sat Mar 04, 2023 8:53 pm

Will the Mikrotek CSS610-8P-2S+IN Switch power the Mikrotik lhg xl 52 ac (https://mikrotik.com/product/lhg_xl_52_ac) dish from the PoE Ethernet ports? My internet comes from the lhg xl 52 which is wired with Ethernet (not SFP+). Can I plug the Mikrotik lhg xl 52 ac into any of the 8 Ethernet ports on the switch to distribute the internet to the other Ethernet ports? Or is this only possible if using the SFP+ ports? I ask this as I am thinking of buying the Mikrotek CSS610-8P-2S+IN switch.

Any of the Ethernet ports will work as all are capable of providing power. SFP+ do not provide power nor will they ever as fiber is not a conductor.

But some switches have a dedicated ethernet port where you must plug an internet source. Can I plug the internet source into any of the ethernet ports to provide internet to the other ports? e.g. I plug the internet source (lhg xl 52 ac) into ethernet port 1 of the switch and then connect wireless access points into ethernet ports 2-8 to provide internet around my home? Will that work with this switch?

I have this switch. You can bring internet to any of the ports, it just doesn’t care which port you use.

Mikrotik devices don't force you to use any single port for WAN or LAN or APs etc. You can absolutely use ether1 for WAN and the other ports for anything you wish. For POE you just have to be sure you're not drawing more power than the device can provide. That would be the only limitation I can think of depending on the number of POE devices you have.

Thank you for confirming this. If I wanted to limit one ethernet port on the switch to 5Mbps, does it have this facility?

Secondly are there any brackets etc that will enable me to mount the switch to a wall?

I would suggest looking at device manual as these questions can easily be derived from it:

https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/SwOS/CSS610
Quality of Service (QoS): Ingress traffic limiting / Egress traffic limiting
and regarding WAN - This is a layer 2 switch - All ports are connected except if you use VLANS to seperate them.

There are no brackets for wall mounting. But there are brackets for a rack mount.

Rackmount ears are included. You can rotate them 90 degrees and use them to mount against a wall if that fits your use case:
