Rb5000 series switch k-79

Sat Mar 11, 2023 6:46 pm

Hi guys,
Is there any switch which can fit k-79 rack mount ears?
I think it would be really handy to have rb5009 and some switch in same form factor.

Well another RB5009 can act like a switch if you want.

While I'm sure something can be jerry-rigged – RB5009 is still less half rack wide – there is only the PoE and non-PoE versions that actually fit those brackets.

4x RB5009 = 1U
Brackets to accomplish this are standard available.

Yes, and it has an advanced switch chip (88E6393X), can do HW offloading VLAN filtering etc. similar to CRS3xx series.
Would be nice to see something with the same size (fitting the same brackets) and more SFP+ ports too.

I too like the design. I think in some video they mentioned it was going to be series.

Now...If you want to have a full 1U with 4 of them, that's were they are missing a product. The single SFP port per RB5009, means you can't interconnect a 4 x RB5009 "stack" at >2.5G without another 1U of something with multiple SFPs.

I think it would be nice to see a 16x Ethernet (maybe some of them PoE) + 2x SFP+ switch that fits in place of two RB5009s on the K-79 bracket. Something between CSS610 and CSS326 that can also fit in the same 1U space with a RB5009 or two.
