CAPsMAN roaming features

Tue Aug 30, 2022 1:38 am

What wifi roaming features does CAPsMAN provide?
Does the signal-range option in /caps-man access-list menu disconnect clients based on the signal strength alone (the same way as signal-range option in /interface wireless access-list menu without CAPsMAN does)?
Are there any functionality in CAPsMAN that disconnects a client from one CAP (access point managed by CAPsMAN) if the client has better signal from another CAP?
CAPsMAN does not add support for 802.11k or 802.11r, or 802.11v (or anything similar), correct?

I think the best CAPsMAN can do is setting a minimum RSSI. Be aware that the client is kicked off, but it will be up to the client with what accesspoint it will (re)connect to. For 802.11k/r/v you should have some patience.

As @erlinden wrote: CAPsMAN doesn't add any roaming capabilities ... even RSSI level is already available in wifi driver (both legacy and wave2) without using CAPsMAN.

Access control list to boot things at predefined level.

Aside from that... Placement, channels, and power levels need to be the best they can be.

Not familiar with CAPsMAN but, with the recent WifiWave2 compatibility and 802.11 K and R support has something changed on the roaming aspect?

The difference between CAPsMAN and Standalone mode is just the speed in configuration process?
WifiWave2 CAPsMAN only passes wireless configuration to the CAP, all forwarding decisions are left to the CAP itself - there is no CAPsMAN forwarding mode.
There is any advantage in using CAPsMAN to manage a low number of AP (up to 10)?
