Link bonding and DHCP client

Fri Apr 14, 2023 9:21 pm

Comcast recently upped my speed to 1.2 gb/s so I am trying to bond two ports to take advantage. The cable modem is a Motorola MB8600 in which I have enabled "LAG(Link Aggregation Group, or Ethernet Port Bonding)". My router is a CCR1009-7G-1C (no switch chip). Until now, WAN was ether1 and my DHCP client got an address from Comcast for ether1. I removed combo1 (using it as a copper interface) from LAN and added it to WAN for firewall rules. I created a bonding with combo1 and ether1 as slaves, using defaults for everything else. The MT documentation for bonding says to assign an address to the bonding but I want to get that address via the DHCP client. I changed the DHCP client to use the bonding interface rather than ether1 but it does not find a DHCP server so doesn't get an address. Am I doing something wrong or maybe attempting the impossible?
