Wifi Problems in HAP AX3

Fri Apr 14, 2023 8:52 pm

I bought this router yesterday and I'm having performance issues. The coverage and speed (especially the upload speed) is much lower than my ISP's router (Huawei OptiXstar EG8145X6). Together with the router it gives ~450mbps when my operator's gives ~750mbps. I have also tried an Asus ax58U giving me ~800mbps. Wi-Fi range is slightly worse than these routers too.
Things I've tried:
- I have tried with version 7.6 and 7.8 with similar results.
- I have changed the country to USA or I have left it empty. I have verified that the tx power is at 28dbm.
- I have tried several channels with poor results.
- I have used the 80mhz bandwidth on the Huawei and Asus to be in the same conditions.

Personally I don't buy Mikrotik for wifi speed. It tends to underperform.

Hi,

how far are you from the HAP aX3? Both routers you mentioned are able to achive 2.402 Gbit/s in 5G(AX) so they have better thorough.

Less than 1 meter away. Those 2 routers reach that speed because they have 160mhz bandwidth, but still that's only if the client device supports 160mhz. I have also tested at 80 mhz in the 3 routers so that they are in the same conditions. Apart from all this, the wifi range is worse.

It looks very similar to issues on my two ax3 devices.
There are known issues with AX3 Wi-Fi performance. As MT claims it is all good and according to design, there are low chances it will get better.
If you need Wi-Fi performance, go for a different vendor.

Move to 7.9rc3 first, then evaluate again.

In my case, rc3 is worse than rc2.
