hEX S - High temperature after upgrading

Wed Apr 19, 2023 7:58 am

Hello there,

Is anybody know why after upgrading to latest ROS 6.48.6 my hEX S started reporting for high temperature?
Before upgrade it was below 40'C but immediatelly after upgrading it was dramatically increased to 61'C
Firmware was upgraded too. CPU load not exceed 5% maximum.
Screenshot 2023-04-19 085206.png
/system health print
voltage: 12.1V
temperature: 61C

/system resource monitor
cpu-used: 1%
cpu-used-per-cpu: 0%,2%,0%,2%
free-memory: 221048KiB

Appriciate any advices. Thank you.

Where did you upgrade it from (what version)?
Why did you upgrade?

Mine is reporting 58C (running 7.8 ), not sure what the temeprature used to be.

I upgraded from 6.46.x (I don't remember exact version)
There were several reasons for upgrading - to have the same version of ROS for all routers in my network, also I tried to resolve strange issue with ovpn-server when somtimes ovpn ios mobile clients cannot connect to ovpn-server at all (router drops ios client right after successful connect).

Have you checked the changelog, could be misreporting of health in previous versions?

Current value of 61 vs erlinden's value of 58 is not that much of a difference.

Logically thinking below 40 is IMHO too low without cooling so something must have been off then.

So you think 60 is normal temperature for fanless router like hEX S? Just this router only the one in my network not equipped fan so I have no idea which temperature is normal.

AX3 - no fan - temp=60C
AX2 - no fan - temp=58C
RB5009 - no fan but HUGE heatsink (the complete case is the heatsink) = 47C

I'd say around 60C is a normal temperature for hex S.
If you want I can power up my Hex again to see what that one gives ? :D

hEX PoE (1) - 56C => powering accesspoint
hEX PoE (2) - 65C => powering PowerBox Pro
PowerBox Pro - 57C => powering 2x camera's and accesspoint
RB4011 - 40C => powering accesspoint

All running V7.8

@erlinden @holvoetn thank you

Now I almost sure that it was misreporting from hEX before upgrading.
