IPv6 hw-offload on DHCP-PD routes

Tue Mar 28, 2023 7:20 pm

Hi. I recently installed a CCR2216 and I realized that traffic to ipv6 routes installed by the DHCP server don't get offloaded.
When I run a torch on that interface I'm only able to see RX traffic so the TX traffic is not passing through CPU and it's getting offloaded.
Is this a bug, or am I missing something else?

I edit to say that ipv4 traffic is getting offloaded well

Yes, every ipv4 and ipv6 route (except blackhole ones) shows the HW flag.

Routes show the HW flag if they're eligible for offloading, whether or not they're actually offloaded.

I find HW offload for IPv6 to be quite buggy, still. I have a variety of CRS300's and 2116's all running 7.7. IPV6 + IPV4 L3HW offload on the 317 has been working fine, but on the CRS310's, with IPv6 enabled, it wouldn't offload the IPV4 traffic anymore. As soon as I disabled it, all the IPv4 traffic moved off the CPU back to the ASIC.

I have IPv4 offload enabled on the 2116's, but IPV6 is not (yet--I'm troubleshooting some OSPFV3 issues on those boxes).

I haven't taken the time to upgrade some of the 310's to 7.9b4 yet to try fixes they've implemented, but I'm hopeful.

I have also seen a similar problem with IPv6 HW offload on CRS328. When HW IPv6 enabled, IPv4 stops forwarding. Disable IPv6 HW offload and IPv4 starts forwarding again.

I'm using OSPF v2 and v3 with inter-VLAN Routing too. Not sure if that has any effect on the IPv4 forwarding issue.

Best Regards,

Robert
