hAP ax²

Sat Apr 29, 2023 4:13 am

Hi,
I got my new hAP ax² router.
Just popped couple of questions, for which i didn't found the answers:
1. What is WiFi Wave2? I know it was written in documentation and discussions. But all these discussions about difference between wifiwave2 and wave2 only got me confused. Simply, what is does?
In internet I have found this:
802.11ac Wave 2 introduces two features: MU-MIMO and wider channel bonding.
2. Where have interface tabs like WDS, modes like station-pseudobridge gone?
3. Why i'm getting: "disconnected, key handshake timeout", on ac standard while connecting 2 laptops to 802.11ax standard (using WPA3) and 1 laptop to 802.11ac (using WPA2) standard on 5GHz radio?
4. Where switch chip capabilities have gone, in order to configure hardware offloading?

As I try to understand this ....

"802.11ac Wave 2" is the wifi standard

wifiwave2 is the driver implementation for Mikrotik. It implements more of the 802.11ac standard than the regular driver (with the WLAN interfaces), which however has some interesting non-standard features (like 4-address mode, with the 'bridge' activated).

wifiwave2 does not implement all known "802.11ac Wave 2" features. It also has some "802.11ax" features on the proper hardware, but not all the features.

The "wave2" in the driver name for me is a marketing term, and is the confusing part, as it is not the same as "Wave 2" in the 802.11 standard.
