RB260GSP sporadic PoE Issue

Hiya,

I have an RB260GSP powered through a 10m ethernet cable @ 24V (the RB260 reads 22.435V on the web interface).

Connected to the RB260 I have one SXT G-2HnD and two Groove A-52HPn. All three of these devices are being powered by the RB260 drawing between 50mA and 200mA. (A persistent graph of power usage would be a VERY nice debug tool).

In order to get the RB260 to power the devices I had to tick the 'PoE In long cable' tick box.

However, periodically, any time from once a week to once a month all three output ports go into 'short circuit' mode and shut off. Only after some random mix of PoE off to the ports and rebooting with my tongue at the right angle and all planets aligned do the ports come back to life again, at which point they'll work for another arbitrary period of time.

The PSU feeding the PoE for the RB260 is a 24V @ 1.25A (30W) PSU.

Has anyone else faced this issue? Can anyone make a suggestion as to what I should try next?

Thanks,

Alex

Yeah, we noticed that the PoE on RB260GSP series performs wierd. We switched to RB750UP which works fine.

I will bear that in mind for future. Wish I hadn't bothered with the SWOS boxes.

Yes some problem but usually happens only on port 2.
I have on one place 260GSP use only 3,4,5 port for poe working for months without problem, on other place using port 2 basically every 15 days lost power is working more stable is check log cable. Without log cable checked more frequent lost power on port 2.
Some time device connected to port 2 just reset but sometime need to go to off and on again to work.

Some place before have 750UP without any problem.

The downside I see to using 750UPs are that they are only 100mbit! Not gigabit like the RB260GSP.

We need a decent RB (not SWOS) that has PoE-in, PoE-out, Wifi and Gigabit ports.

Their switches are performing fine. Well except that poe feature on 260GSP...

You can try the following things to make 260GSP work more stable:

Use only original power supply 24v 2,5 A.

In most cases when input or output voltage is not stable (caused by unstable PSU, using long cables which causes voltage drop, or by powered device), the PoE In long cable can fix the reboot problems.
PoE In long cable can also help if the power is passed to 260GSP over DC jack.

Calibrate PoE out readings - change PoE Out to "calibr", disconnect the powered device, and 260GSP will automatically calibrate PoE port.

If the problem still remains, you should contact your local distributor, or Mikrotik support for help:

What is considered as "long cable"?

Is it 15 meters? 50 meters?
