Mikrotik RB951Ui-2HnD

Mon Nov 30, 2015 1:06 am

I have to setup a public wifi hotspot in a restaurant. The place is one big open hall (85 feet X 40 feet) , will have at most 40 guests connected simultaneously with bandwidth limited to 2 Mbps per guest.

Am planning to use the Mikrotik RB951Ui-2HnD.

Que 1. Can anyone please recommend how many should I use and their location. Will 1 router placed in the centre be sufficient?

Que 2. Do I need to solder external antennas? If yes, which antennas?

Que 3. Can the router support 2 internet connections. One primary and one backup (3G)

-----
ceiling: 12 feet. false ceiling 2 feet. effective ceiling 10 feet.
no hanging lights, no hanging fixtures, no partitions, etc.
just tables and chairs
walls: concrete/brick with huge glass windows
Can mount anywhere I want.

1.- Great pick, one at the center will be enough
2.- No need for external antennas, internal ones will perform excellent. See this post: http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=102456
3.- Yes, it can support two connection as long as the 3G modem is compatible, see http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Supported ... and_modems

You are welcome!

Just take care not placing it too near any kind of AC motor or electrical junctions.
