Winbox: "Could not save configuration" error message

Fri Jun 03, 2016 2:48 pm

After an upgrade to 3.4, Winbox reports that it "Could not save configuration"

There is a thread that reports this error also

http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=93307

and I've tried deleting the contents in

C:\Users\xxxxxxx\AppData\Roaming\Mikrotik\Winbox

but that didn't help. Anything else I can try?

Although an old post but I currently have the same problem.
Solution:
Delete this folder (%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Mikrotik\), will be recreated when opening WinBox. If necessary, BACKUP folder before!

I have the same problem, but it's only with one of my MikroTiks.

Hammer, would that advice still apply in my case?

Here is how I fixed it:
  • 1
Rename C:\Users\xxxxxxx\AppData\Roaming\Mikrotik\Winbox to C:\Users\xxxxxxx\AppData\Roaming\Mikrotik\Winbox.old
  • 2
Launch Winbox and it will automagically recreate: C:\Users\xxxxxxx\AppData\Roaming\Mikrotik\Winbox, then close it.
  • 3
copy the contents of Winbox.old into the new Winbox folder EXCEPT DO NOT COPY - path, sessionpath and settings.cfg.viw

Now when you launch Winbox you should see your saved managed sessions, albeit you may have to turn on some columns you had previously.

Have a great day!
