Monitor submap on top map

Thu Jul 14, 2016 10:23 am

We have many old topics requesting a simple feature to monitor the submap outages on top level map. After so many years of beta version, do we have this feature now?

That is already doable with sub-map element. Which will turn Green/Orange/Red depending on device status in map which is attached to it. It also acts as shortcut to that map. Or did you mean this in a different way?

Thanks for reply...
suppose below setting:

PARENT-MAP
|
|________CHILD-MAP
                        |
                        |______DEVICE1

If DEVICE1 goes down, CHILD-MAP turns red. but the PARENT-MAP does not.
The parent map color does not reflect the status of child map.

Parent-map wont notify that outage is the object is in child-map.

What you will see is:
* In parent-map icon of child-map will become red/orange.
* In maps list that child-map entry will change icon color.

Possibly you might want to enable some notifications you these sub-maps? That would allow you to get indications of problems there.

Parent-map wont notify that outage is the object is in child-map.
This is exactly the feature many admins requested so far...
As an admin, you want to know the outages with a glance on the main map(not searching the list).
It seems sensible when a device in any submap goes down, all upper maps become red, isn't it?

As long as those sub maps are only one sub-level deep that is possible as you can see the map object changing color on your main map.

I know this is an old post but this would be a very handy feature as described above.

I have been asking for this for several years now as we have submaps in our main map of different network on it. If a submap within those turns red from down devices it would be nice if the main submap turned red so we could tell at a glance that something is wrong within that network and then we can dig deeper. Not everyone gets alerts in our company so this would be huge.

It could be an option to consider a submap like a device and then "down" the map containing the submap when the submap "downs" because one of its device fails.

I think it should be an option because when you have tens or hundreds of maps/submaps in big networks any device failing at a "leaf" would cause a whole part of the map-tree to get red.

Anyway, even if not as an option, this feature would really be nice and allow us to show the top level map, containing only submaps (which themselves contain maps) and any problem at a leaf would be seen immediately on the top level map.

I agree that that you must be able to come to work in morning and be able to glance at TOP level to check for failures, that were for whatever reason, unreceived by notifications, without having to scan all your sublevel maps, which makes this VERY limited in usability. :-(
