Fri Mar 10, 2017 7:55 am

Hello All,

I am new to mikrotik. I want to know what is the difference between CCR and CRS. Model number of CCR is CCR1009-8G-1S-PC and CRS is CRS226-24G-2S+RM.

CCR is a powerful router. Good for routing, filtering, shaping. Excellent CPU.
CRS is a switch. Good for packet switching at wire speeds where you do not need any filtering, shaping or routing. It can also do routing, but light loads and for a few of the ports at a time.

Semantics and word topic is important.
CCR - Cloud Core Router: A ROUTER for the "cloud core".
CRS - Cloud Router Switch: A SWITCH for the "cloud router" as defined above.
So actually "Cloud" is kind of meaningless and just a hot marketing word, but the rest defines their role

Hello there!

VERY new to MikroTik and planning to buy. I have this question based on your answers though...
For a network where i have around 30 people, will a CRS326-24G-2S+RM suffice in sharing internet traffic?

Depends if you plan to shape the traffic, limit speed, control the users, etc. If all they need is internet access, then sure, it will be more than enough. If you need to do heavy tasks that load the CPU, then you could look at other series.

CCR1009 should be powerful enough for your setup. It really depends how much firewall, queues and other processing you are doing.
