RB1100AHx4: IPSec hardware acceleration. Good move! It would be great to see that on more devices, even the smaller ones (like the hex) :). Also, it would have been even better if the power supplies had been hotswapable. The extra storage is also a good thing. I'm sure we can find creative ways of using it ;).

I like the extra information. I for one would would like to see a section on "things to come in the industry" and how / where to use the new products. In our busy lives, it's always good to have a heads-up of things to come. Even if it is my job to scan the media and stay up to date, I believe that information is like a nail. The more you knock on it, the faster it sinks in.

Best regards!

AlainCasault, hEXr3 is very powerful in terms of IPSec and provides 470Mbps for IPSec traffic.

Hello Sergejs,

Yes I know. I was using it as an example of a smaller model with hardware IPSec. Maybe it's my formulation ;)

Interested in routing and IPSEC performance of the CRS326-24G-2S+RM. I imagine no hardware acceleration for IPSEC? Will it do 50-100Mb of IPSEC?
Thanks,

Which CPU architecture running RouterOS in CRS326-24G-2S+RM? ARM, MIPSBE or SMIPS? How it compares with CPU performance of CRS125 or CRS226?

So, similar to the RB3011 being ARM, except a little better than half the clockspeed. IPSEC will be software only until they enable hardware IPSEC? Likely be RouterOS V7 unless I missed something? Could be able to route ~500Mb without fastpath?

Or is the ARM architecture in this one significantly different than the RB3011 and I shouldn't draw conclusions?

Why does the newsletter state 100m distance when 1km is achievable on that frequency:

Wireless Wire 60G Gigabit Ethernet extender that provides advanced connectivity
between buildings up to 100 meters.

Frequency alone does not achieve anything. It depends on the transmitter and size (and gain) of the antenna, among many other things.

RB3011 based on IPQ8064: 2 cores Krait 300 at 1.4 GHz, that similar to Cortex-A15.
RB3011 can provide 300 Mbps with 22-24% CPU usage, without optimizations.
CRS's CPU dont support hardware encryption, only OAM, PTP, PoE and DPI offload.
I think, that 2 cores at 800 MHz can provide average 200 Mbps, maybe more... need to wait real results.
As far as i know it is single core, at least routerboard.com backs me up on that.
CRS326-24G-2S+RM based on Marvell Prestera DX 98DX3236
here is official datasheet for this chip:
https://www.marvell.com/docs/switching/ ... 014-03.pdf
As you can see - Dual-core ARM v7 @ 800 MHz

wAP 60G is small unist. Vawe length on 60 Ghz is only 5 mm.
It means, attentuation is too big... for 1 km you need high gain wireless module (TX) and high gain antenna. And no rain or fog)))

new Dual Boot RouterOS/SwOS 24-port switch CRS326-24G-2S+RM, $199
Stacking! You really need stacking on these! The CPU supports that, and this may be very nice extension for your model line. Very attractive price is good, but ability to connect several switches into one virtual device/chassis may be the killer feature.

And the next step may be 10G or more powerful switches with stacking enabled, of course.

P.S. As RB1100 platform was the first with IPSec h/w acceleration and now it is said CCRs are very good in it, it would be just natural to ask to do some compare and explanation for which purposes which platform is better.

So to say, price difference between new 1100 and CCRs (like 1009) isn't that huge so the performance may be the key choice reason. And as far as CCRs are multi-cored (at least that sounds very significant), like 9 core in CCR1009 vs 4 core in this new 1100, good technical overview is something that a lot of people would welcome. BTW, when these devices be available to order and will be shipped?

A 48 port switch only takes up 1u, compared to 2u with 2 x 24 port switches. Which is important for switch installs in risers or tight spaces or multiple switches in a cabinet. The price is not always everything.

Hi, we waited that in 76's newsletter we will see CRS317.
Although, in my tweet (2 weeks ago) you said that news (info) about this switch "coming soon" to the distributors.
No news, no updates about CRS317
Distributors don't say anything

When?

They are on the RB960PGS, so I would expect the same with the RB960PGS-PB. As far as I can tell, it's the same device, in an outdoor case.

It's the molecule as a whole that absorbs certain wavelengths/frequencies/energies, much more so than the individual atoms that are bound in the molecule. (Below ionizing radiation, anyway.)
For 60GHz RF purposes, rain and fog do contain molecular Oxygen (between droplets of H2O), but the H2O contributes only normal attenuation, not the highly efficient "tuned" attenuation of O2.

Is there any way to connect SSD to CCR devices, by the way? Why MT dealing with ARM at all if you guys are producing CCRs and they are quite good, after all?

Focusing on one platform may free up some resources to develop and polish features users cry for for years (accelerated VPNs, user manager on ARM to name a few), and you won't need to answer "not on this platform yet" anymore.

How fast can the CRS326 route with/without NAT, with/without "usual" QoS settings?
And what does it mean that routing can be done on some ports? Do I have to physically connect one of those "router ports" to one of the "switch ports" to make any use of the fact that this is a 24+2 port unit?

On a complete off topic side note: That PDF is an official company flyer and forms people's impression of MikroTik. You should take those extra minutes before releasing the newsletter to get the spelling right. There is no "get's" and you should take care of your it's/its and do/does (the last one found on the CRS's website).

No, this just implies, that this device is meant to be primarily used as a switch, and it's CPU will not easily handle all the ports in routing mode with processing and at full speed. You can of course use all ports for routing, but then you should better look at some of our CCR series devices, not a switch. The performance of the CPU for routing tasks will be published shortly on this page:

https://routerboard.com/CRS326-24G-2SplusRM

Thanks for noticing, we will correct these. Please note that we are an all-latvian company located in Latvia (Europe). We are trying, but sometimes a few typos can slip by.

Is there already any news on the availability of the 60Ghz devices?
I have seen it working fine in the MUM Milan in March/April.

We have usage for such devices. I believe they can give high capacity backhaul up to 150mtrs.

We already use other 60Ghz solution much to our satisfaction. We have links of 350 and 450 meters running full Gb capacity (aggregated) with 0-1ms latency. Hope Mikrotik can achieve the same.
And if the price is like we are used to with Mikrotik, it can be a very interesting product.

At the Mum there was also words about 60Ghz in a LHG form format. To get the higher gain needed to bridge some bigger distances. The other solution works with either 36 or even 42dBi antenna.
14dBm outpur radio. How much is the Mikrotik solution?

The info for MUM Milan was "Finally some great news on wireless from Mikrotik!" but to be honest 60Ghz solution could be something "great" but so far I am quite dissapointed..... The other small wifi stuff can hardly be called "great news" and is more for niche markets.
We WISPs are waiting for solutions to upgrade our networks. wave2ac, higher capacity AP's and other frequencies like 60Ghz, 24Ghz, 11Ghz etc. Only a glimps on 60Ghz that is still not available can hardly be called "great". (Bwah, I hear this word "Great" to often anyway nowadays... a lot of humbug if you'd ask me. ;-) )

Keeping in mind its 800 Mhz 1-core CPU I'd say you shouldn't expect much better throughput that you may have with 2011 series. Maybe 100-130 Mbps, from what I can imagine (as a office internet router, that is, WAN with NAT and some inter-VLAN routing).

This is primarily a switch, after all. Maybe after 6.40 will be released (which promised hardware bridge processing and maybe some fastpath/fasttrack improvements) the overall speed may be better a bit.

You can see the Ethernet test (routing mode) and the Switch test (switching mode) results on the product page:

Normis, may I please ask you recommendation how to figure out the approximations for NAT performance keeping in mind these "performance" tables you've cited above?
You see, while some device can route, say, 726.2 Mbps in 512 bytes packets, there is no hope it can work at that speed at NAT operation, right?

One of the "routing" rows in that case. Probably a bit faster than the "25 filter" rules, but slower than bridging mode.
