any chance having the capsman and tile performane fixes being added to v6.40.7?

The new 6.41.x branch with changed bridging/ethernet setup is way too new for production status

Hello guys,

Did you got problems with OSPFv3 on this version? After update a RB1100AHx2, some OSPFv3 neighbors doesn't reach the full state. Neighbors that are running is because I disabled / enable OSPFv3 interface. I've done the same with all neighbors, but some doesn't worked.

Image

* I tried to remove / add the OSPFv3 interface too, but the problem remains.

I'll send a supout.rif to support in a while.

Thank you!

pietroscherer - Does problem go away if you downgrade router to 6.40.5 version and appears once more if you upgrade back to 6.40.6?

Hello Strods,

I didn't do this test yet. One of the neighbors that wasn't working, becomes to work after update (6.23 -> 6.41.2). The other one still non working (no update).
I'll test a downgrade on RB1100AHx2 to 6.40.5 to see if it'll work.

* I'll do this in a light time, because it's one of my main routers.

Thank you!

UPDATING..

Maris told me to disable OSPFv3 interface on both sides, and then re-enable after 40 seconds.
The problem was solved with this action.

Sorry for don't tried this before.

Does the "What's new in 6.40.6" show what is new compared to the previous bugfix release 6.39.3 or only what is new compared to 6.40.5? Is everything that is in 6.40.5 also in 6.40.6? I want to see the complete list of what has changed between what I'm currently running (6.39.3) before I upgrade.

....What's new in 6.40.6 (2018-Feb-20 11:04):.....
IMHO it means that Mikrotik reports new things.
All changes you can trace here: https://mikrotik.com/download/changelogs/

I'm pretty sure not everything in 6.40.6 is new compared to 6.42.rc30, so my question remains, "new compared to what?" (For example, the item "dude - fixed e-mail notifications when default port is not used" appears in "What's new in 6.41.1" as well as "What's new in 6.40.6", but 6.41.1 is over 6 months old.)

If you look at the bugfix release tree changelogs you will see that the [bugfix] release immediately prior to 6.40.6 is 6.39.3. This implies that the only changes between 6.40.6 and 6.39.3 are the ones listed in the 6.40.6 "what's new" list, but I have my doubts about whether or not this is true. This is what I would like MikroTik to clarify.

If you look at https://mikrotik.com/download/changelogs/ for the current release changelogs, you will see that 6.40.6 is not listed. So my best guess is that "What's new in 6.40.6" is what is new compared to 6.40.5 and upgrading from the previous [bugfix] release of 6.39.3 to the current [bugfix] release of 6.40.6 will change a lot more than what is listed. But what exactly will change?

"What's new in 6.40" lists what changed between 6.39.2 and 6.40. Some of those changes made it into 6.39.3, so I cannot look at the 6.40 list and say "all those things are also new in 6.40.6 compared to 6.39.3" nor can I say they are all not new.

I would like a list of what changed between 6.39.3 and 6.40.6 that includes everything that changed but does not also include things that did not change, so I can review the changes without worrying about things already in place on my systems. The changelog is supposed to provide this, but I think it does not.

pietroscherer - Glad to hear that you resolved the problem. As far as I understand, you can not tell if problem was caused by this particular release. Is that correct?
jgro, BartoszP - Changelog always shows difference between this version and previous one. Previous before 6.40.6 is "-1" - 6.40.5. This changelog shows difference between 6.40.5 and 6.40.6. For example, if you upgrade from 6.38, then you have to check - all 6.38.x changelogs, 6.39 and 6.39.x changelogs and 6.40 and 6.40.x changelogs.
Beone - There are no silent fixes. If changes are not in changelog, then they are not in the release.

I know they are not in the release, but 6.41+ is having the whole new bridge implementation, which needs to stabilize first. Meanwhile we have production devices requiring at least the capsman and tile performance fixes, which are not available in bugfix. So my question is: can you release a bugfix having those fixes but not yet having the new bridge implementation? (a 6.40.7 so to speak)

Beone - At the moment I can not make any promises. Each and every fix which is tested, has not caused any new problems and have actually fixed the problem are included in bugfix version. Yes, fixes which can be included will be included in .7 version.

In order to make bugfix as trustworthy as possible, we do not include just made and untested fixes.

Strods,

It's Hard to say if was a problem caused by this particular release. OSPFv3 neighbors are running oldest versions than this.

Thank you.

Couple of devices updated and so far so good ... (IPv6, OSPF v2 and v3, wifi 2GHz, 5GHz, VLAN, GRE/IPsec, VPN - SSTP, L2TP/IPsec, ...). Stability and "conservative" approach of the bugfix channel greatly appreciated. Thanks.

so between the 2 bugfix releases this is the actual difference if i understand properly
...
As I currently understand it, to get the actual difference, you would take the list you put together and then delete everything in "What's new in 6.39.3"

This means, for example, that you do not need to upgrade to 6.40.6 to get "ipv6 - fixed IPv6 address request from pool" (new in 6.40.4) or worry that by upgrading, "ovpn - added support for "push-continuation"" (new in 6.40) will cause problems, because both changes are already in 6.39.3.

No Scrolling Here. Use real browser and the post is rendered in a scrolled list inside that post.
As for the question it seems legit to ask to se if one has understod things right.

To actually answer the question: Yes that seems to be the official release notes so take your version on witch you where and compare to where you are going to. Read up in the threads for each version, in this forum, to see if there are any information that is of any concern for your type of deployment.

Can we get some clarification around this change?
*) dhcpv4-server - fixed framed and classless route received from RADIUS server;

We use RADIUS to assign additional subnets as static route to the DHCP client. We've seen that this breaks default routes on Mikrotik CPEs, as it forwards the values through and replaces the default route assignment, but other brand CPEs seem to work ok. Does this change fix that issue, or is it something else?

The issue is that 'other brands' does not follow RFC. RFC3442 clearly states: "If the DHCP server returns both a Classless Static Routes option and a Router option, the DHCP client MUST ignore the Router option."

So, the correct way is to add default route (0.0.0.0/0) to your Option 121. The workaround on the RouterOS side is "/ip dhcp-client set [find] add-default-route=special-classless".

*) wireless - updated "Czech Republic" regulatory domain information;
Czech republic has implemented the EU plan and band number 61 in this document is: 5725-5875MHz Non-specific Short-range devices 25mW e.i.r.p.

which fulfil the technical conditions as specified for a given frequency band. Typical uses include telemetry,

Hmm,

problem.
I upgraded my 3 hAP AC from 6.39.3 to 6.40.6 ..
All seemed OK but the office W10 laptop refused to connect to the wifi ...
To bad there is no useable logging, the MT logging just says station leaving and the W10 logging says "unable to connect" ...
I donwgraded to 6.39.3 and now the W10 connects ...

There was a problem on little endian systems where, server sent wrong route received from radius server.
Fix has nothing to do with your mentioned problem. Chupaka already explained why default route is not installed.

Please provide support output file to suport@mikrotik.com so we could compare that configuration to see why it would not work in v6.40.6

Thanks mrz and Chupaka for your responses, that makes sense.
I may put up a new post about this, as the feature of the Mikrotik router assigning static routes towards the client and using the same RADIUS response value to tell the client to route those same subnets back upstream router seems like something you would never want...

Huh?.. What feature?..
If you send a Framed-Route value from RADIUS to a Mikrotik router DHCP server, it will add one or more static routes on the DHCP server for those routes, with a gateway of the DHCP client IP. However, it also sends that value to the DHCP client (I can't remember in which option) which, as you mentioned, should remove the default route from the DHCP client and instead use only the routes set in that DHCP option. So all you end up with is a recursive route. And you can't assign a default route via that Radius option, otherwise you end up setting that DHCP client as your default gateway.

As I said, this isn't the place for this discussion - I'll start a new thread on the forum.

Re: v6.40.6 [bugfix] is released!

jgro - Yes. Lets say that we have version 6.39.2. Meanwhile we build 6.40.x. If fix is approved to be good, then it is also included in 6.39.3 (if possible). At that point the same fix is in 6.39.3 and 6.40.x. We do not edit changelogs and do not remove fixes from already released changelogs. If you go through multiple changelogs between your version and one you want to install you might notice same fixes mentioned multiple times.
Spirch - Yes, this is correct order of changelogs which you must read before an upgrade. That actually applies to everyone. We can not do anything if someone decided to upgrade and something is not working as suspected, however, for example, we have mentioned in changelog that feature is removed or changed its behavior. That is documented on changelog.
Muator - I assume that you did upgrade device from version older than 6.38.4 and did not read all the changelogs in the middle. 6.38.4 introduces this fix - "firewall - do not allow to set "time" parameter to 0s for "limit" option". Also this problem is not related to 6.40.6 so please in the future do not report problem in concrete version forum topic if you are not sure that it is caused by it, since you might scare off others who will think that feature is broken. This is whole reason why we make version topics - to find out problems caused by concrete release. Not 6.39.3, not 6.40.5 but exact version - 6.40.6.
igorvukotic - Upgrade happens on old version (on version which was installed on router before) and if it is caused by upgrade process, then it is caused by old version. Also we have re-worked upgrade on 6.42rc so hopefully (if problem cause is related to software itself) you will not experience such problems in future any more. I recommend that if you "brick" router, then you connect to router through serial console (if router has serial port) and see what happens there. Maybe RouterOS is working properly and, for example, ND is not working and that is why you do not see device in neighbors (just an example). What SCEP URL problem exactly is not fixed? Please contact support@mikrotik.com regarding this problem.

This is whole reason why we make version topics - to find out problems caused by concrete release. Not 6.39.3, not 6.40.5 but exact version - 6.40.6.
You don't seem to understand what I'm saying. From the winbox in the firewall creates a rule with the parameter "time" 0C for "limit". From the terminal is not created.
Yeah found it by accident to version 6.40.6.
Thank you for telling me that you've made some changes. If you have changed the rules, creating firewall rules and/or settings, for a terminal, you must apply those changes to the winbox as well.

I can't create it from WinBox as well. How do you do that?

On version 6.40.6 is created ! Upgrade to 6.40.6 and check if you don't believe.
Checked just now again, in the mangle and firewall, is created with 0.
The output from the console showed above.
The point is that the rules were added after the upgrade to 6.40.6.

It seems that the wrong label Winbox(3.11) launched, sorry. The question is removed.

*) route - improved reliability on routing table update;

What was done to improve the reliability on the routing table updates? The reason why I ask is that we have been having issues with all routing crashing on ours. So we recently upgraded them to 6.40.6 but I want to know what was done to shed some light on the issue.

Is there some more detail on this bit?:
*) wireless - updated "Australia", "Czech Republic", "UK 5.8 Fixed" and "United Kingdom" regulatory domain information;

does it include change to AU regulatory domain to allow radar-detect to be disabled?

Cheers, Mike.

cinatus - If at some point your routing started to misbehave and after a while you saw "autosupout" file created on your router, then this fix might help you. However, I would recommend to send such file first to support and see if we will ask for you to make an upgrade to the version which includes this fix.
meverest - Regulatory domain information simply has been updated to current values.

Update CCR1009 from 6.39.3. Why it's setting MAC address to eth6? That MAC is the same as eth5
### v6.39.3 Export script:
[...]
/interface Ethernet
set [ find default-name=ether5 ] comment="SW (LACP)" name=e5-SW
set [ find default-name=ether6 ] comment="SW (LACP)" name=e6-SW
[...]
/interface bonding
add comment="SW-LAN_FAB (LACP)" mode=802.3ad name=bonding1-SW-LAN_FAB slaves=\
    e6-SW,e5-SW

### v6.40.6 Export script
[...]
/interface Ethernet
set [ find default-name=ether5 ] comment="SW (LACP)" name=e5-SW
set [ find default-name=ether6 ] comment="SW (LACP)" mac-address=\
    4C:5E:0C:DF:8D:92 name=e6-SW

Re: v6.40.6 [bugfix] is released!

Thu Mar 15, 2018 9:17 pm

Disclaimer: I haven't seen myself any bonded interface on Mikrotik, I've only seen a few in Linux.

It seems logical to me for bonded devices to have same MAC addresses as it doesn't matter which physical device actually receives certain ethernet frame (keep in mind that MAC addresses are used to deliver frames in ethernet. Behaviour wold be non-deterministic if a device would answer with different MAC address to different ARP requests). I've seen this kind of behaviour at just every linux machine, configured with bonded ethernet devices using 802.3ad mode (there are a few other modes available in linux, but if the other end of such bond actually supports bonds, then its best to use the standard mode).
In linux the MAC address re-definition happens automatically and usually bond takes up MAC address of first physical device listed (I've never paid much attention to this detail). But that doesn't mean it couldn't be done explicitly as it is in your export from 6.40.6.

irico - Are you 100% sure that simply another admin or you by mistake or on purpose did not re-configure MAC address. Also - why in your printout "Ethernet" is with capital letter? It is not an export. These commands are edited by the hand.

EDITED!

Possibly the autocorrector has changed some uppercase letters. I am the only administrator of the router. I make an export every 5 days automatically and in no other export there is change of MAC address.
Before updating, I always make a backup and an export and after updating again, to compare the files and detect possible configuration changes (as has happened now).
This week I will update another CCR1009 with similar configuration, I will verify if the same behavior occurs.
I just updated another CCR1009 with the same behavior. I have the export of before and after updating and I have a supout of before and after updating.
In the code you can see an extract of the router configuration updated today and the router updated last week.

The interfaces are bonding in cases of MAC address change.

These are the exports again, unprocessed with the autocorrector:

Updated RB951Ui-2HnD from v.6.39.3 [bugfix]

Internet connection is PPPoE on top of VLAN on top of ether1. Dial out goes trough but no traffic flow.
Downgrading back to v.6.39.3 fixes the issue.

Posted this in wireless networking but think it makes sense over here as well since I have a feeling it's a software bug:

Have a HAP AC that is a CAP which consistently crashes when using Chrome screen mirror from the laptop (Intel AC8265) to the Chromecast 2.
- local forwarding is enabled
- Both devices connected to 5ghz radio
- RX strength on the registration table for both devices is between -43 and -51
- after a few minutes of screen mirror of video content or pictures the HAP AC will reboot
- log on the HAP AC after reboot logs a system, error, critical message of "router was rebooted without proper shutdown by watchdog timer"
- first noticed it on bugfix 6.39.3, upgraded to latest bugfix 6.40.6 and issue still occurs
