Re: Photos of towers and masts

Tue Jul 09, 2019 1:24 am

Hi. I did my first external installation using a wAP LTE Kit to provide a secondary internet link to my home.
So, the router was installed in a mast that is used for a UHF TV antenna and I got interesting signal rates to LTE 2600 (B7) since the carrier's towers are far (around of 2.3 KM).

The performance is good and I'm getting speeds around of 16Mbps/9Mbps. The carrier apply bandwidth limit, so it's a good speed for that, since it's similar to cellphone speeds when it's near of a tower.

Hello to everyone :D
This is one of many installments I done by myself from ground. :) Every time I become better and better. Feel free to suggest some modifications to make it even more better and more practical. ;)
P.S Please don't look at the "spagetti" cables in the middle it wasn't finnished when I shoot this photo.

Cheers mate. Yeah, quite a large panel for the equipment - the site only gets 1 hour of direct sunlight per day. The rest of the day the panel is covered in shadows from the tree which bring it down quite a bit.

The top photo is with the VictronEnergy charger + a mAP I take up there to act as a MQS when I need to tinker with the routers.
The bottom photo show inside better but with the Tycon controller I was using (which was rather crap).

Not a tower but our new rack for now 12 private lora networks and development. Not completed right now, the core router is still in the old rack and it needs to be patched completely new, but a start.

Not a big mikrotik install - we use Mikrotik routers everywhere but not so much wireless gear for various reasons.

However we have started using the new 60ghz products for short haul stuff - here is a recent install with redundant links (60ghz to about 600m away, airfiber for a few km away)

Shoddy job, IMHO... but of course installation circumstances are not optimal either.

How do you turn antenna, by losening the mount on the pole? What do you do while driving around, take the whole installation (including pole base) down?

Yes, this is completely manual. When the caravan has its position I can place the antenna - neither caravan nor lte station will move then.

maybe, mounted on a plastic plate (Polyethylenplast) then a rubber-sucker (Saugnapf) in each corner to fasten to roof.
then very portable.

Yes, it's a heavy plastic plate. But it has just rubber-feet, no sucker. But I will fasten it with a strong cord and eyelets in keder rails.

- MikroTik LtAP LTE kit + R11e-LTE-US + RP-SMA to U.FL generic pigtails (x4)

Hey! I'm looking to build out better 4G coverage for a failover setup and I'm really interested in how you've done this.
I see two sets of the L-COM DAS HG72710XP-065 in use so are you running a second LTE card in the LtAP?
Also, what stands are you using for the masts?

Currently one of the failover setups I have uses an LtAP LTE6 kit and MTAO-LTE-5D-SQ.
The coverage is great (indoors) but could be better. There's no need for a directional either because of the proximity to the tower.
So the choice of antenna you've gone with is perfect for a step up from the MTAO. Hope to find out! Thanks!

Simply open the device, drill the top side, install the pigtails on the cover and connect them to the LTE cards. Make sure that these pigtails have at least 15cm long.

Yes I'm running a second LTE card with a second LTE ISP.

The masts, any used for discoteque speaker mounting.

Regards.

This LDF LTE6kit (RBLDFR&R11e-LTE6) is used for 4G backup as well as for testing&staging (simulating remote sites to be deployed). It is installed on a professional Kathrein CAS06 dish with an LNB adapter, as the Kathrein attachment is a propriertary clamp.

Besides the Mikrotik LTE6kit, the mast also holds another CAS06 satellite dish and a 180cm yagi DVB-T antenna to feed the IPTV server, an X-pol FM antenna and a 180cm 4G panel antenna. All the gear is from Kathrein.

The location is Havange, France. I will post pics from another site where we have an LTE6kit in production next time I'll go to that site.

For those interested, I can't recommend enough to use professional sat dishes for the LTE6kit. In harsh environments, especially heavy winds, it makes a HUGE difference in terms of signal stability and connectivity.

In the summer of 2023 or 2024 I'll try to setup a 2km PTP NLOS link with LDF2's and modified 180cm PFA dishes. I'll share the pictures of the setup of course!

That's all for now, folks!

As promised, here are some pics of the installation of another LTE6kit (RBLDFR&R11e-LTE6) on a remote site (hangar) near Ham-Sous-Varsberg, France. Same dish (Kathrein CAS06 with special die-cast LNB adapter). It is a 60mm mount, with the anchor bolts chemically sealed into the concrete wall for stability.

The base station is 800m away, reception is flawless. The only disconnections we get are due to the ISP.
