Where is dtim and beacon interval??

Tue Mar 19, 2019 8:01 pm

I'm looking for the dtim and beacon interval settings, and can't find them anywhere. Anyone know how to modify them? Is it only in cli or something? Thanks.

If you search the forum you will find these can't be set and have been requested for a long time... yet Mikrotik doesn't seems to be listening or there is some hidden reason why these can't be changed (their own wireless drivers?). Especially beacon interval would be handy to modify, but NOPE.... not possible.

I didn't think it was possible for mikrotik to still not have implemented it after all these years...
How does it make sense to have a bunch of esoteric settings that no other ap has/needs, but the absolute basics (that even my 10 year old, $15 tplink has) are missing?
Does anyone at least know what the current values are?

DTIM default is 1

Unfortunately you can not change this value with Mikrotik

I saw an article suggested to set DTIM to 3 for Apple devices, this value is recommended by Apple, to prevent users from experiencing missed Wi-Fi calls, repeated re-authentications and other known connection issues on Apple iOS devices.

This caught my eye, as i have some (very nice BTW) SWL4000's from samsung dated 1999

The default DTIM setting is 3, and i have used it in every setup i was involved with for the past 20years, with great success.
(to great Mikrotik demerit, as their driver does not allow this setting)

As for beacons, i haven't seen any great improvements in throughput when messing with it (in platforms that allow it). Anything over 400ms seems to cause more trouble than benefit.
Possibly disabling the 11b rates, and forcing the beacon to go @6.5mbps (MCS0-11N) would be more beneficial?

Beacon interval and DTIM period are now available with wave2 wifi routers. And yes, for Apple devices setting DTIM to 3 does make the difference, performance is better.
