Ltap lte 3 sim model - how to reference sim number 1

Wed Oct 02, 2019 4:57 pm

It is possible to reference sim 2 and sim 3 in script but sim 1 does not exist as an option. Can anyone please help with this. Thank you kindly.

Your answer works for the 2 sim mini model, not the 3 sim model? My 2 sim model scripts work with up/down but not the three sim model

In terminal, when you are at the point to choose sim sim-slot= press tab and see what options you are getting...

When I press tab then only "2" and "3" shows, no indication of how to switch to sim 1, I also cannot find help anywhere on websites, forum which addresses the 3 sim ltap model.

This is the brochure for the model: https://www.eurodk.com/files/catalogue/ ... kit-qg.pdf

On the LtAP, the sim slots are tied to specific miniPCIe cards. So SIM 1 can only reference the "top" modem, while SIM 2 and 3 can be switched via CLI/script/winbox for the "bottom" modem. You can not script or otherwise wireup SIM 1 to the bottom modem, nor can the top modem use SIM 2 or 3. Like Ghostbusters, you can't cross the streams.

The MT website has a diagram that show this visually:

The sim-slot names have changed between version so make sure your using either current long-term or stable version, and if using winbox, the latest version of that too.

Thank you very much for the explanation. I take it then that the top modem cannot be referenced via script at all?

Correct. You don't need to set anything – only one SIM to choose from ;).

Now, You can reference the lte modem in script, but do stuff like reading the RSSI stuff or issue "AT commands" if needed, or GPS.

Wow, this then means the top sim is useless unless you have a top modem too, the documentation does not mention this anywhere, how does the modems then operate in practice together? That is information that is desperately needed to be able to make proper solutions?

the documentation does not mention this anywhere,
The LtAP documentation is weak for sure - struggled myself. Normally this would be "documented" here, but the LtAP is missing:
https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:USB_Features
how does the modems then operate in practice together
well, if you think about the LtAP as a router, which it is: the 2nd modem shows up a 2nd interface available for configuration how you want. Now, there are not a lot LTE specific feature (like switch SIMs based on the "best network"). LTE specific routers like Craddlepoint and Peplink do more automatic stuff for you - but can do most, or more, on Mikrotik but you configure it more "by hand".

The LtAP is pretty new, which I think explains your frustration. But a 2nd modem is cheap and if you have 3 SIMs, you could always have 2 active modems, at a fraction of the price of a Craddlepoint, Peplink etc. - SIM 1 would not be wasted with a $50-100 2nd modem. See https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Peripherals for a list of what's know to work, or at least if you emailed support a supout.rif about a problem with one of them, they'd help in due course.

Hello, I want to know how to configure all the sim card slots of my LtAP LTE device kit, it has three sim card slots.
I only have active a one slot, that it is the second slot.
It doesn't let me activate the other two slots, it tells me that "only APN can be local!" And I do not understand because.

Hi,

I'm dealing with the same issue. I bought the LTAP kit LTE that came along with a R11e-LTE6 modem and I'm aware that it would only work with sim slots 2 and 3 at a time and that's fine and working properly.

I installed a second R11e-LTE6 modem to be able to use the sim slot 1 but the LTAP does not recognize it.

Any thoughts on what it may be?

Hi, you need to add another Lte router modem before you can use the other two sim slots.

Maybe I haven´t made myself clear well enough. I already have two R11e-LTE6 modems installed on the available miniPCIe slots. As the above diagram posted shows, the miniPCIe slot 1 corresponds to SIM slot 1; The miniPCIe slot 2 corresponds to SIM slots 2 and 3.

The bottom R11e-LTE6 modem (SIM slots 2 and 3) works fine. The above one is not being recognized by the LTap and therefore and can't use SIM slot nr 1.

Any thougths on how to solve it?

The antenna must be split beween the modems, so each modem will have one channel of the antenna only. You can reference the modems through their names through the interface section and testing whether LTE1 or LTE2 is active. The modem must have a valid and activated sim card in before it will be recognised. Have a look at the system routerboard resources to check whether both modems are detected.

Hope this helps.

Already did that. SIM cards are all active and work fine in slot 2 and 3. I checked the routerboard resources and it only recognizes one modem. On the interface section only LTE1 appears.
The only thing I didn't mention (an important one by the way...I'm sorry for that) is that I disconnected the original antenna that came with the LTAP. Instead I installed 2 MIMO (Poynting PUCK-2) omnidirectional antennas, one for each modem. Inside 2 pigtails (UFL to SMA) for each modem. If I switch everything (SIM cards, antennas) the result is always the same: The bottom modem works and the top one doesn´t, though it works on my LHG antenna.

What am I doing wrong here. Is it something about software that I need to do before it is recognized?

Here you can find information.

If only LTE1 it shows and you have 2 miniPCIe modems installed, you need to change the power output of the second modem from USB (Default) to MiniPCIe.

PD: How much is better the Poynting PUCK-2 antenna vs internal LtAP antenna?

Regards.

Hello how are you?
I have a small problem, I already installed the modem for slot 1, it recognizes it and everything fine, but now I want to know how to make the device change sim automatically with some script, in addition to knowing how to activate the sms, to achieve that when receiving An SMS with the secret followed by some command, I resent the information with the sender's number, but you can help me with this, thank you.

This is the script that I had found in https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Dual_SIM_Application but I do not understand very well, I created the script and a task in netwach but it does not make the change, it remains marking error.
