accessible packet flow diagram

Wed Oct 09, 2019 8:37 pm

Hi all,
I am totally blind, and use a Mikrotik router in my home network. The nature of Router OS, specifically the robust command line support, make it particularly accessible to a blind user.
I'm relatively familiar with networking theory.
In reading a lot of the Mikrotik wiki, the packet flow diagram is often discussed. Unfortunately, as someone who is blind, the diagram is completely unuseable to me. Has anyone ever come across a text description of this diagram? I totally understand how complex the diagram is. Even better, has Mikrotik ever considered producing a text description of the diagram?
I know several other blind Mikrotik users that could greatly benefit from this. Any suggestions would be welcome.

The packet flow diagrams show too much logic to try and describe it in it's entirety. That then makes your question too broad. Before the diagrams make sense, you should first learn about the different chains in the firewall rules, nat rules and mangle rules. Once you understand those, then the basic diagrams can be visualized in your head. The only packet flow diagram I needed to look at was the IP Sec Encryption packet flow diagram. Specifically I wanted to know why it is necessary to apply a src-nat rule for packets destined over an IP Sec tunnel.
