Question: Is "Basic Rates" on CAPsMAN ignored

Wed Jul 29, 2020 10:36 am

Dear Mikrotik lovers,

when I set "Basic Rates" and "Supported Rates" to a value of 12Mbps on g/n and 24Mbps on ac, it's ignored at the CAP.
E.g. I can see that the CAP starts at 6Mbps.

Is there any reason or regulation, why the settings are ignored?

Thanks for you help and best regards
Dksoft

PS: This is based on the "CAPsMAN WiFi Layer 1 Optimisation" on MUM 2018

Looks like I have the same issue. Were you able to figure it out?

Isn't one of the points made in that presentation (maybe it's another presentation by the same speaker at another MUM) that it will always try 6Mbps in the first handshake but then will go up and not come back down to 6Mbps?

Access request from the station is always at 6 Mbps, independent of the basic rate set.
Remember that besides the 6-9-12... series , there is also the HT MCS basic rate (802.11n) and the VHT MCS basic rate (802.11ac) [only seen when the rate is configured, not when default]
And MCS 0 is around 6 Mbps.

Best check I know, is sniffing for the beacon, and checking the content. The supported and basic rates are announced.
No beacon in your sniffer? Set a MT AP in station mode, and enable "wifi+debug logging", the beacon info will be in the log
